Good evening!  This is a plea to anyone who is interested in becoming a Ratbone Foster Parent.  Georgia is in need of a few good Foster parents due to an increase of ratties in our kill shelters and a decrease of available foster homes.

What does a foster parent get paid?
  • Sloppy doggie kisses.
  • Watching them grow and learn from your direction.
  • A warm lap or feet.
  • The rewarding feeling that you have saved a life and united a rattie with a loving forever family!
What is required of a foster parent?
  • Decide to Foster a New Dog
  • Name the Dog
  • Complete a Foster Agreement
  • Get Vet Care for the New Dog
  • Keep a folder for each New Dog
  • Submit a Profile for the dog (you can even take lots of pictures and movies to post to assist in his/her adoption)
  • Care for the Dog
  • Assist in the Adoption Process (speaking with applicants interested in your foster baby)
  • Participate in Ratbone Chat (yahoo group for foster parents)
We also have a fabulous support group of volunteers to ensure your fostering experience is a success!

This plea is specifically for the Georgia area, but I know all states and Canada can always use assistance in Fostering or other volunteer areas.

If you or someone you know is interested in becoming a Ratbone Rescues Foster Parent (or volunteer in another area) please contact me right away.

Here is a link to apply to be a foster and learn more:  http://www.ratboner escues.com/ fosterparent. php

Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from some of you soon!

I hear ya! I have 4 ratties of my own and one foster right now. I have had up to 7 ratties and that was CRAZY!

Have you adopted from Ratbone in the past? Would you be interested in volunteering in a different way?

I'd love to do this but my husband would simply throw us all into the street....I've got 4 dogs now. I wouldn't be able to give a foster dog enough attention. Of course I could do it if I didn't have to work! LOL

I'm sorry to hear of so many ratties in Georgia needing homes. (I'm down in Saint Marys, GA)

I've applied to RatBones before volunteering to help drive ratties to new homes or foster homes but never heard back from anyone.

Hi Paula!!! I will not discount it down the road....right now have my hands full with the new one, and cat-rat relations! But would not be opposed to fostering in the near future.
In the meantime, I won't always be 100% available, but if ever a transport is needed and I can help, please let me know!

Great work you ALL do...ALL rescue groups!

I am also up for home visits and transports. I have added my name to the list in the Yahoo Ratbone Group.

Ashley - awesome! If you have any trouble not getting in you let me know and I will assist. May I ask where you are located?

I also coordinate the Petsmart Adoption Days for Ratbone in Georgia. This is where we show off the available fosters and take applications. This is how one of my foster babies found his new family. I don't think they would have found him otherwise since they weren't actively looking.

There are so many ways to help that do not involve fostering. I love that you ladies are up for it! It is all based on how much or how little you want to do.

Hey Paula,  I am a Georgia Rat Terrier lover.  I can't foster right now or my hubby would divorce me, but if I can help out in any other way, I would love to.  I have one rattie and 2 cats, 2 skin kids and my 77 year old Alzheimer's Mom living with me.  I don't think I can handle another dog right now, but someday...I would love to be a foster mom.  Do you ever get litters to foster?  I would be very interested in taking care of babies.  I'm not too far from the Mall of GA, but I avoid going over there because I hate traffic!!!  I'm north of Atlanta closer to North Point Mall.  If you are ever at the Petsmart in Cumming, Johns Creek or Alpharetta, let me know.

Carol

Ashley,

I have seen many posts on not enough foster homes in TX and they ship the ratties to Washington state to save them. So volunteers are not just needed by me in Georgia.

I would love to foster, but not the right time in life....fulltime work and school...my babies spend at least 8 hours a day with my in-laws. I am definitely up for pull and transport, as well as home visits.
