So far so good, went and got Monti on Monday - he's a super nice little dog. When I led him out to my truck and opened the door he jumped right up to the seat, WOW what a leaper!  He was nervous but well behaved on the way home. I've only heard him bark twice, once when our basset barked at the mail man and once when a door bell rang on tv (S) So he will be a nice quiet dog I think. He communicates with an intense stare and quiet whine if he wants something.

When we got home he calmly greeted our cat, (who I think swore at me)  introduced himself to Daisy our Basset hound, who thinks his treats are better than hers (even if they are exactly the same) but likes him and man did they play, tug of war with the rope, played tag and gnawed on each other and did a lot of mock growling. It was hilarious!

He's good with our birds, curious but doesn't jump up on the cage, sure seems house trained comes and cries to you and when you ask him if he has to go out he starts for the door and stands in front of it and hops up and down. LOL

He has bonded to me I think, I can't go in the bathroom or any other room and close the door or he sits outside and cries. (S)  He loves squeaky toys. LOVES naps in my lap and crawls under the blanket if I have one, and although he's long legged somehow he tucks himself up pretty small to snuggle. So far, he stays out of things he isn't supposed to mess with and he's a great little personality.  Whoever throws the ball when you play fetch he brings it back too, which is neat, he doesn't just return it to whoever he wants.

He's as tall as Daisy, but his body is small and has some great legs so I'm hoping he'll come along on horseback rides and keep me and Payton company.  New pics will come when they are back (S) I think this is a super little dog. They left him at the pound when his owner couldn't have a pet in her new apt. That would have been rough with such a good little guy as this!

Take care,
Michelle

Sounds like a perfect match, so glad he's home and things are going well. Visited your horses too, what a great site you've created.
Congratulations on getting Monti, he has a whole new wonderful world to enjoy, especially going along on the trail rides, and the wide open spaces.

That's a nice story. It seems to me that Monti couldn't have found a better family than yours. Enjoy every minute with him.

Welcome to the best Rattie Forum on the planet and CongRATs on your new addition. I think all Ratties have leap-rasy. Mine loves to jump even though I'm not supposed to let him with his knees dislocating on him but I don't know quite how to stop him from doing what ratties do naturally. I love your avatar. If you want warm weather for you or the animals, check out Davie, Fl. Lots and lots of horse farms there.

Thanks to you all. So far this is the greatest little dog! When I go anywhere he is my shadow. I like having such a cute little shadow! LOL Our basset is such a great dog too, she's so good with him being new, not jealous or nasty, just loving and sweet and playful with him. Those who commented on my horses, I've had horses all my life, my mare is my soul sister and I've had her since she was 3, at age 27 she's still thinking she is 3. I also used to raise llamas, as well as lots of other critters. Have a gazillion pictures (S) and enjoy sharing - be warned! I have such high hopes this will be a great addition to our family, he has the most interest in the pigeons (which I keep in my living room) and their new baby. But he only looks, doesn't jump up or bother them so that is great! My pigeons are another passion, they were also rescues, found without even feathers, now they are raising their second batch of their OWN babies! (S) Terribly smart, insanely tame and funny to have around. We tell everyone they are large parakeets so they don't think we're nuts. Shhhh don't tell on us! ;0)

Take care,
Michelle

I posted some pics under photos of our crew, not sure how to do it here?

Thanks all of you for your kind words, he's really a sweetie, he doesn't come up on your lap unless invited and then he leans back against my chest and lays his head upside down on my shoulder, it's totally adorable, this guy has charm! LOL

Take care,
Michelle
