Sad because it happens at all, but happy because at least now they're rescued and getting care:

Animal Abuse and Neglect at Puppy Mill

Posted: [script removed] Dec 18, 2007 04:02 PM EST

More than twenty desperately ill Chihuahua and Rat Terrier Puppies, along with adult males and females used in the breeding operation, were turned over to area rescue organizations after the owner died suddenly.

There are several ways you can help. Volunteers caring for the dogs are in need of towels and blankets to wrap the animals in, and donations of pet care supplies are also needed. But the best way to help is to donate funds that can be used right now, for veterinary care and medicine for these desperately ill dogs.

The Animal Rescue Foundation, or ARF, is spearheading the drive to save these dogs lives.

If you can help, send donations to ARF at Post Office box 53501, Lafayette, la 70509, or log on to the group's website, www.arfla.org, to make a PayPal donation.

Volunteers will also be on hand this Sunday at Pet smart to accept your donations.

When the puppies are given a clean bill of health, you can log on to the ARF website, arfla.org, to find out how to adopt or foster.

That is sooo sad. I just sent some money via paypal to help the poor babies and I have my mom sending some as well. She's even said that she will CONSIDER maybe taking one of the puppies after they get a clean bill of health. Lafayette is only like two hours from her house, so I really hope she will talk herself into it.

Blessings to you and your mom, Maggie. It'd be wonderful is she could also adopt one. I just hope they all make out all right. Hopefully the puppies were gotten to in time. Depending on the conditions (which don't look good) I'm sure the adult breeding dogs will have a hard time adjusting.

I live here in Lafayette... every time this story came on the news I would just sit and want to cry. I also told Brad that I wanted to adopt one of these poor pups. Brad, of course, says no! One is enough right now in his mind. I understand his reasoning but I just wish I could afford to help them.

I am in Lafayette too and have seen this on our local news and it is so sad. I "wish" I could contribute at this time but with Christmas my hands are tied. Maybe I can do something after the holidays. I wish I could do something and it even makes me feel worse to be in my own town and I am not in a position to do anything at this time right now. But this is so sad!!!
