I did.  And I drove 300 miles there and back to get him. I fell inlove with him off a website and needed to have him. The shelter almost didn't give him to me and my family. They said they dont usually give the dog after one visit. But we told him we had a huge yard. And the guy was like okay, you can. I was so happy. This is the first time I have rescued a dog.

Bless you for getting that rattie out of the shelter!!

I rescued my Skipper (chi-corgi-rattie mutt) from a shelter last April.  I found him online and we drove about 150 miles to get him from a tiny town in Georgia.  Mitzy was a rescue too....my friend found her on the road when she was just a tiny puppy.  She couldn't keep her so I took her home....one of the best decisions I've ever made in 49 years!!!

Welcome and bless you for rescuing this little pup. What a cutie pie! My youngest (not the one in my avatar) is a kill shelter rescue. Only had two days left. Drove clear across the state of Texas to get her. They actually "held" her specifically for me until I could get there (which they said they don't usually do), since I was coming from so far away. We love her to death.

All the dogs my wife and I have had since marriage (36 years) were and are rescues! Best dogs ever. Smokey is the first that is not a mix. But tell you what I think...........they rescue us.......the good home we all provide doesn't come close to the joy and happiness they give back!

Welcome to this WONDERFUL site! It is SO full of amazing, wonderful people and pups! But be careful... IT'S ADDICTIVE!!!

My maybe-rattie-mix Tucker is a rescue from animal control. It was his last day up for adoption before being killed! I will never forget the look between me and my husband when Tucker looked at us from behind those bars! Best thing we have done together besides having our son!

I rescued both of my JRT and my Rattie, yep it's those long drives from the rescue to their forever home splitting McDonald's cheeseburgers with them that are the  best

Kinda, he was from a rescue but even at 8 yrs old he had other people calling about him later... Small dogs are snatched up so fast at the local humane society I ended up getting him up in Portland about 3 hrs away. So I wouldn't really call him a rescue since he wasn't in any danger of euthanasia, but I did adopt him.

Ivan on the other hand, my ancient old toothless kitty, I feel really good about adopting him (not at first, hence the name Ivan the Terrible) because he was truly in bad shape and a lady that works for the clinic where I got him said "Thank you so much for taking him because there wasn't going to be ANYBODY that would adopt that cat!" I think he's a very fortunate kitty, but I think I am very fortunate because he has given me such a great feeling knowing I saved his life and he has taught me that patience pays off.

I didnt officially "rescue" Zoey... but in someways I think I did save her. I found her in a newspaper ad... went to "see" her and was in shock when we got there. This lady had, llamas, goats, pot belly pigs, chickens, roosters, turkeys, geese, cats, dogs, horses, sheep, donkeys and ostrichs running around her yard! Of course she lived out in the country, everyone had food and water and looked loved and healthy... each had a name.... she was just bizarre! She had a female and male rattie that stayed inside... and Zoey was the last of the pups for sale! Overall, I think I saved her from that crazy lady! LOL

HAPPY 2008!!! Hope it is a safe and PROSPEROUS year for every one and their loved ones!!!!!

I initially was going to just Foster Yogi....he was thrown over a 12' wire fence in the middle of the night at a rural county shelter....but the thought of someone ELSE having him got me off my butt and so he's my new family now! Keeps me on my toes...and heels! lol!

Kristin...Zoey looks like she's smirking or winking!!!!!Great face! (Both faces..hehheh) LadyDi

I sure did.  I too fell in love with "Pippi in MD" on a website (PetFinder) and put my application for adoption (Ratbone Rescues).  Puppylove at first sight.  Her foster home was not far from where I live, and the nice guy who worked with me locally as far as information and home visits and such also lived nearby.   I only had about 2 months of waiting (I thought I would jump out of my skin...felt like a kid waiting for Christmas) and preparing before I was able to bring my Pippi home.  She has been the light of my life.

Yes I did!! In 1993 and Izzy (Miss Isabeau) has been my best friend since then- though not anyone else's best friend! She is quite cantankerous as she gets older and definitely the alpha dog in the house (not the Rottweiler !). We travel together- she knows what it means when the suitcase comes out and is fantastic in the car. She has slowed down at age 14 1/2 but still going strong- just a little "confused" now and then. My daughter was the shelter manager when she was brought in and had me see her- said she would be put down for biting if she wasn't adopted right away. I couldn't resist.

Yep! All of our dogs are rescues...that's the only way to go IMO.

Cissy came from a local pound the day before Thanksgiving 2007. She's a great little dog!
