Hey!  i wanted to share this with you....

we have one of the dogs in our ratbone rescue and it makes me think of your dogs!  Her name is praline and Praline has cataracts and glaucoma and was examined by an ophthalmologist.  she just had her one eye removed.... but heard that she is such a wonderful dog.

here's her link....  http://imageevent.com/beales/fosters/praline

Enjoy!!

Aw, thanks for posting that!  Praline looks like an awesome rattie.  Mitzy had to have her eye removed for the same reason as Praline except that her glaucoma was caused by an injury....but I think she was abandoned because the injured eye made her unlikely to be sold or find a home.

So not true though!  These little guys don't feel sorry for themselves, they just keep going on.

Wonder how Praline ended up with such bad eyes at such a young age though?  I mean glaucoma can be inherited but the cataracts don't usually happen until they're older, right?

Yeah, i am not sure how that happened....  and yes most of the time it happens when they get older.... but sadly not in Praline's case.    I think those "handicap" dogs doesn't let those "little things" get to them, they learn to adjust and move on....  I think it hurts us more than it hurts them.... does that make sense?

Yep Mardi, it makes total sense. They do "learn to adjust and move on"....humans could learn a lesson from them. I've actually had people (not many but a couple) be replused when Mitzy tries to greet them because of the missing eye.....makes me angry at them but she couldn't care less. She just finds someone else to say "hi" to! She's very much a social butterfly.
