I swear, since these fires, I have noticed a huge increase of pets at the shelters. I don't know if these dogs were displaced by the fire or not, but I have just seen the numbers really increase since last week... This just breaks my heart... I just wish I could help one, but since I can't I am posting a few here in hopes that maybe someone might see one and can help them...
This first guy just makes me want to cry!

| Maybe JRT_Rattie_Mom will know of an agency that could help little Stevie. She has a blind JRT and I believe has some contacts with blind dog rescues. She's in Oregon which is a bit far from San Diego, so I don't know. She usually is on rather late (for us on EST, anyway) so hopefully she'll notice this and have some ideas. |

ohh! I hope she does see this then! I'm just worried about him, because even though he is such a young puppy, I think he might have a hard time getting adopted becuase of the blindness and possible other health issues I can't find much info on their website about their shelter, every link from their main page just takes me back to petfinder... |

I know, that one really bothered me too... I think the thing that bothered me as much as the age was the tag... "713" just seems so cold... I mean look at that thing! That is one very unhappy pup

Poor Dogs, who knows how they ended up at a shelter..... Kim- If I could get another rattie, I would get one of theese three. Oh my God are theese guys cute. I would even drive the seven hours to get one. But If I came home with another dog, my mom would have a heart attack! I'd be in HOOOOOTTTTT water if I got one! But really and sincerely, I would get one if I had the chance. Little Stevie looks liek a doll!!!!! Theese guys are so cute! I would have driven out there to get Jackie for my grandma ( She wanted an older dog just to give her company), but she had knee replacement, had that eye surgery, and has a vicious cat, So I just can't..... Ugh..... Now I am crying............ Oh geez, I need a tissue. Bless those dogs. I sure hope they will find a good home..... |

Oh these poor babies, I'd take any of them. At least that first shelter does point out that the blind pup might have other health problems so the adoptive parent is prepared for that. And the last one is a shortie like Mitzy and Mayfly - I can't even stand the thought of either of them ending up just wearing a "number". |

I wish.... I actually showed Stevie to Kevin last night and he actually looked and read about him! That was the first time he actually took the time to read that little paragraph, I think he got hooked by that sweet picture.... But we talked about it AGAIN decided we have to wait until we move out. It just wouldn't be fair to my sister (who is allergic to dogs)...
I'm so sad!! I actually had that glimmer of hope and then.... gone.... |

I sent Tracey a private message, but will post here too. I have Stevie listed on my blind dog adoption listings (2nd after blind Homer with Ratbone) at: http://www.blinddogs.net/adoption1.html From Stevie's Petfinder listing it sounds like the rescue has him in a foster home that is experienced with blind dogs, and will make sure he finds just the right family. Like I told Tracey, blind puppies are often adopted pretty quickly. When puppies are born blind they don't know any different, and for the most part are trained just like any other puppy would be. Lucy was 2 1/2 went she went blind (now almost 6) and even at 2 1/2 Lucy adapted to her blindness so well that we were totally shocked. There are some foks that have had blind dogs that they've lost from illness, age etc. and adopt another blind dog... because they understand how truly amazing these blind dogs really are!

Both of the little girls grabbed my heart. I'd love a sister for Aka and the little 8 pound 1 year old sounds like she would really spice up his life. But right now, with mom getting sick again plus it being CA. I just doubt I could make anything work out. Dang it, where is the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow or the ever producing money tree? I don't want to be rich, I just want enough money to be able to afford to adopt another pup!! That little Graci will be in my dreams tonight. |

I sent an email to Graci's foster mom. She said she has someone coming to see Graci tomorrow. I don't know what it is about this little girl, but she caught my heart strings. I just can't adopt right now and I have no idea how I would adopt a girl in San Diego, but I sure hope this little lady gets a wonderful forever home.
I also invited Sandra, the foster mom to come visit our site.
Does anyone have an update on the other two sweeties? |

Ahhh Kim, Thanks so much. I will keep that in mind. LIke I said, some ratties just grap you and won't let go. I so wish I could adopt a sib for Aka but until Mom's situation gets better AND Aka gets more training and socialization, I'm just going to have to wait. Thanks again! |

1st one breaks my heart. Wish I could have another dog. Id find any and every way to get him. I used to have blind dogs. Shelties. One went blind with old age and the other got that white fog stuff over her eyes. Feel sorry for the poor little one. Must be a scary world for him right now. Pray he gets a new home soon |
