Hi.

A buddy of mine recently discovered he had been left with a rat terrier permanently when the original owner requested his help to look after the dog but was unable to reclaim it.

My buddy refuses to drop off the dog at a shelter since it is next to impossible to know where the dog will end up.  In order to help him out, I thought of registering for this forum and asking rat terrier lovers the best possible route in order to find a good home for this dog.  My friend resides in Phoenix, Arizona.  Can you suggest any possible solutions or actions?

Hi Ratony,

My name is Sue and I'm with Ratbone Rescues, a national Rat Terrier rescue. If you can have your friend e-mail me a picture (email address below) and provide additional information on the dog, i.e., male or female, spayed/neutered, up to date on shots, information on temperment, such as good with other dogs, cats, children - age and approximate weight, we can see if we have a fosterhome available. We also have a program (GAP - Guardian Assistance Program) where the dog will stay with your buddy, but be listed on our website (www.ratbonerescues.com) to be offered for adoption. But first we need to confirm that the dog is indeed a Rat Terrier before we can go any further.

Thanks!

Sue - suzie_redhead01@yahoo.com

I have fostered under the GAP program for ratbones many times - GREAT program.. i have never had a dog for more than a few months at the most except the first dog i pulled and fostered that was emaciated and had demodex mange.... she took more time to recover. good luck!
