Just found out, my son is very allergic to our dogs.  I must find home now.  I do not want to take to SPCA.  They are 14 mths old, brothers.  Rocky and Friskie are very loving.  They are not fixed.  Would like to keep them together but I know it is not possible.  They are crate raised, play fetch and love kids.

We thought son had allergy to carpet so we put in wood.  Condition got worse, we found out it was the dogs.  Please help.

I live in Spring Texas.

I hope you can find them a good home. Would you be willing to fix them first, it may help.

Yes, I would.  I found a place in Texas called "TBONE" but have not heard back.  I volunteered to take them to their vet and pay for having them fixed but did not hear back yet.  My son is on steriods now and has rashes everywhere and his eyes swell up and he wheezes.  This got worse after taking the carpet out. Our doctors had said it was the carpet never thought it was the dogs.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. What is TBONE? Do you have any pics of Rocky and Friskie that you could post. I hope we are able to find someone to help you. Please - if you have no other choice - make sure that any possible shelter you take them to is a completely non-kill shelter. Though I sincerely hope it doesn't come to that. Do you know anyone (friends, family, coworkers) who may be interested?

Oh, how horrible! I'm so sorry.

If nothing else, maybe we can find a temporary foster home until they can be adopted out?

Keep us updated....

I do have pictures of them but can not figure out how to upload them.  Will try again.  But anyone can e-mail me at kharper@polygon.aero and I will be happy to send pictures.

Worst part is getting son to understand he is young.  I am trying to get someone to take them til I can find a home but have not had much luck yet.

To upload their pics, go to the Photos: Rattie forum and start a new thread, then type in a subject, and something in the message window, under that will be three upload boxes where you can browse to the pics on you computer that you would like to add, just keep in mind that the pics need to be resized so that they are less than 125kb in size and they need to be in .jpg format.

I have never done this before, thanks for the suggestions.

Rocky & Friskie were born Aug 23, 2006.  They are registered.  They have had all their shots and are on Heart worm preventitive.  They sleep inside in a big kennel/cage.  The cage has a carpeted cat house in it.  Friskie sleeps in the top hole and Rocky sleeps in the bottom hole.  They won't sleep without that crazy cat house.   They whine to get in their cat house.  I have 5 yr twin boys and they love their dogs.  These raties will lick you to death.  Rocky is more active can jump 6 feet in the air.  Frisky likes to be held and cuddled.  They love the back yard but with the heat in Houston they stay in alot.  They are not what I would call house trained.  They have never gone #2 in the house.  If you let them run loose in the house they will eventually hike thier leg but if they are playing with the boys they will not.  They bark when they have to go outside and go potty.  We have many kids that come over and play and these 2 critters are right up in the middle of the fun.  They have always been feed Eukanumba dog food.  They have never had a flea, at least that I have seen when brushing or washing them.  Walking them on a leash is a challenge.  If you are going where they want to go you are ok, if not, well let's say they usually win.

I have another Dr. Appt. Monday week to see what course of action we are gong to take.  My son is on both oral and inhaled steriods and a  special cream.  He also has ezcema and asthma now.  The Dr. had us get rid of our carpet and put in wood floors.  It took a while to save up the money and when we replaced them he got worse.  Evidentally the carpet was trapping the fur and/or dander.  But to answer your question it appears to be both.  He also takes both zyretec and singular.

I hope you have found homes for these little guys by now. I just have to say that the doctor seems to have remiss in just assuming it was your carpets and not doing allergy testing from the first....then you would have found out it was the dogs and had a little more time to find them homes before your son got sicker....you also wouldn't have had the expense of tearing up carpet needlessly.

I emailed her. I can take them in while I find new homes for them I'd hate for them to go to the SPCA.

It would be nice if she would respond to you, Bonita. And it's really sweet of you to offer to foster them rather than taking them to a shelter. Hopefully she'll let you know one way or the other. I did a search on petfinder and did not see any ratties resembling them listed in any shelter, so maybe they are still with her or she found them another home.

Oh how sad. If I had not just paid for a puppy I would have taken Rocky for sure. He reminds me of my Sassie. I almost still want to take him considering how badly he needs a home but it would break my heart knowing I would be separating them. I wish I could take both but it would not be possible. I hope she responds to you soon. And how awesome of you to do this for her.
