My girls caught a rat this past summer. It was a "joint venture" though. We cleaned out all the junk underneath our portable storage building the last owners crammed under there. We were pretty sure a rat or possum had taken up residence under there, too, based on the way the girls always acted around it. Once we got everything clear, Zipper and Button both took off under there and Zip came out rat in mouth, shook it in the middle of the yard and it was a gonner. She dropped it and then Button carried it across the yard to show to show off their feat. Here's a pic of Button glowing with pride and smiling (even though she didn't catch it or do the actual kill-shake)...

Our late dog, Clyde the bichon, was a pure lap dog. I swear the rabbits chased him. With Hendryx, the rabbits all live out beyond the invisible fence line.

His name is Hendryx! He's a rat terrier! OK! |

I live on a farm and have 4 rat terriers, they are way better and way cheaper than any pest control company i honestly cannot tell you how many they have caught, but they love it and when there are no rats the lizards run for their life....

Holly (my rat terrier) brought something up to the back porch one time. I looked closely and notice a mouse's tail sticking out of her mouth. I looked at her in horror.

Hi I'm new here. I adopted from the shelter a mixed breeed that I think has some rattie. Also labrador. Moxie has some habits that make me think she has rattie in her. Some of her habits sound a lot like the descriptions. She cannot have a stuffed toy for more than a minute or it is completely gutted. When she has a toy and we try to throw it for her to retrieve, she brings it to us but won't give it up. She will shake it so hard if you try to take it that it can rip your arm off!! But she won't let go. If you try to walk away, she will wrap her arms around your legs and not let go and you practically can drag her just by her grip. She is my shadow. Today, I took her into the woods and we found a large pile of grapevine and debris where I know some chipmunks live. Mox went crazy, digging around it and sticking her head in up to her shoulders. She makes a weird snort sound underground. But she did something so odd, that I thought it had to be an inbred habit. She would look at this pile so alertly and stomp on the pile with her feet. First one, then the other. The stomp was obviously an attempt to scare out the rodent. She did this for at least 5 minutes and then went to another site. Just stomp, wait, stomp, wait....it was fascinating to watch. Does this sound like rattie behaviour? She looks almmost exactly like a picture posted under the name of Sassies Mama. She is a little larger, probably due to lab, 45 lbs. Everything else I read sounds like her down to the farts!!!! Can anyone tell me if this described stomping behaviour and all the rest sounds like I should think she has rattie in her? I appreciate any feedback.
