Hi all,

My wife wanted me to ask if anyone's rattie likes being picked up and held?  I'd also like to know if the others get upset over this as well?  Piper gets all bent out of shape when picked up and hates to see other dogs picked up as well.

Do they really love us or are we just walking food dispensers?

KS does not mind being held if we are standing but she doesn't cuddle -- she will sit on us and put her paws on our chest if we are sitting --again no cuddling. The only way she will cuddle is to lie beside you on the sofa.

for my girls it really depends on their mood. Lucy loves to be held and will tolerate being held on her back, like a baby. Molly will not even let me think about holding her like that, toughie that she is. since my girls are so big (30 lbs), I can't hold them for very long. if I'm outside with them and one of them is picking on the other, I will pick one of them up and the other one will jump up and try to nip the butt of the one I'm holding...they just want to continue their game.
if you're asking if they like to snuggle...YES!! I often have a lapful of ratties when I'm sitting down watching tv...Molly pushing my legs apart and snuggling there, and Lucy half on Molly and half on me.

Cameo is a snuggle-bunnie and 100% trusting so not only does she like to be held, we can also hold her on her back without a complaint. Zip, a foster, will come to me during a storm and reach out to me to pick him up. Rattagan will tolerate it. Cricket, also a foster, is starting to relax when being held. At first she'd freeze into a locked position when she was picked up. Now Janie can get her to come, pick her up and she's almost relaxed.

Zipper, my rescued stray, loves to be held (so long as she's not in hunting mode). So does Button................But both of my dogs absolutely do NOT like to be turned over on their backs, however. Squirm like crazy to right themselves. Guess that pretty much means they are both assertive, alpha dogs.

Joleighs fine with being held, i think she thinks the view is better from up there lol the only time she squirms is if theres something she wants to chase. she likes to lay in my lap to take naps or at the very least next to me with her head on my leg.

90% of the time Noodles is either in my arms, in her sling at my waist or in my lap. She does know how to walk, but she just adores being carried!

Phil said it all with his post ours are good. Ratty used to like to be held all the time when he was younger, now at 11 years and with his legs he doesn't want to be held a lot but he does like to snuggle up and lay beside you for as long as you will stay there. I can still pick him up and carry him around though, he just gets really heavy after a short time.

Trixi would prefer being snuggled up in someones lap ALL THE TIME...neither of mine mind us holding them. They even let Michael hold them like a baby! They are both snugglebugs though...Toa gets hot more easily and wont snuggle quite as close..heheh

Daisey does, Eddie doesn't. Daisey will let you do almost anything (not nail trims ) and will let you hold her on her back like a baby as long as you are kissing, talking to, or snuggling her. Eddie prefers to get really close but not actually be held.

I don't know what Marley lays on when I'm not home because when I'm home he's always in my lap if I'm sitting down.  Sometimes he doesn't even wait for me to be completly seated before he jumps in my lap.  He also lets us pick him up and hold him.

Egypt will let you do anything you want. She will be held like a baby and carried around the house that way. She actually prefers being held when there are strangers around, but not because she is scared, rather she is more at face level with them and can easily slip in more kisses that way

Lola would be perfectly happy to never walk again as long as someone is cuddling her. Too bad she's a standard. She sure feels heavier than 18 pounds after a while!

Belle will let you carry her around like a baby allllll day. She also has the "Paris Hilton" pose perfected. If you pick her up no matter how excited she is, she stops immediately and "smiles". She will sit in your arms on her back as long as you'll have her. She prefers it that way, the better to rub her belly!
Libby is only a year old and wants to be down running, playing, none of this cuddling nonsense until she's good and tired! That's good at her whopping 22lbs. She can stay down =)

Mya absolutly LOVES being held...especially if she is real tired...while I'm standing she will put her front paws on my leg and paw at my leg until I bend down and pick her up.  She doesn't like being held on her back, but she will rest her head on my shoulder or try and lay down on her belly while in my arms.  I will have to take a pic the next time she does...it is so adorable!

My boys all want to be ON me all the time and barring that right next to me. My girls have always been more independent. Nothing like a pile of dogs on your lap in 85 degree humidity, let me tell you.

No kidding Bethany!! Try 6 dogs on top of you in bed while you're trying to sleep and it's 85 degrees!!!!!!!

Thought this was maybe a trick question...... all my babies have to be no less than an inch from me when I'm sitting down.......

To add to this...Mya LOVES being under the covers while I sleep..she can't stand to be in her beddie even though it's next to my bed.  Once my alarm goes off she'll start to whine moments later...like asking to come snuggle with me.  Of course I let her!  I can't stand to be away from her either!!

Alice will be held and cuddle, she will put her little arms around you and almost hug. She is okay doing her own thing too. Sometimes she will run like crazy and jump up on you lap give a quick kiss and off she goes.......

Fred will tolerate cuddling if he initiates it. He will get all mushy when he wants to but if we initiate it we get "the braced paws". He loves when we lay him on his back, it means BELLY RUBS!!!!

The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too

Bonnie loves to be held! She will even come to me and reach up for me to pick her up. And once in my arms she is my total cuddle-bug. She's so soft and squishy I just love to cuddle with her. On occasion she'll even let me craddle her like a little baby, but most the time she's got her paws on my shoulder and leans her head on top of her paws and "sinks" into me. It's really sweet.

Now Chloe, gets real jealous anytime she catches me holding Bonnie (standing) and will bark her little head off until I put Bonnie down. And Chloe only likes to be held, when she likes to be held. She's not a cuddler by any means- unless we are sleeping, then she cuddles right up next to me just as close as she can. But when I'm standing she rests her head and paws in the crook of my left arm, then her legs dangle underneath my right and both my hands support her underneath. This seems to be out little thing and she enjoys it- when she wants it. lol!

With Fuji, it depends on the mood he is in. He can snuggle next to you or on top of you for a long time. If he wants to play, he does not want to be picked up. Other times he is in the mood to be picked up and will allow it for a while.
