We can usually get Murphy to be still once we are in bed, but it's not until we get "the sigh" that we know he's ready to tuck in for the night.  Until then, he may lie down, but he's looking around and watching TV and seeing if Daisy is getting something he isn't... but once he sighs, that's it.  He's down for the count.

Anyone else see this with their RT?

So true! I'm trying to crate train Olive right now and she will whine and whine, but once I hear that sigh, I know the fight is over. I've come to love that rattie sigh, it means SILENCE is coming! haha

Yes, Daisy does this too. Many times it sounds like a sigh of disgust. Ha ha ha.

Yes, Bob does the sigh too when he is giving up and going to sleep. If I toss and turn too much in the night, I will get the sigh of disgust for waking him up.

Lucy sighs when she is ready to go to sleep or when she snuggles next to me. It always makes me smile.

Tonight Nora climed up sat on back, laid her head on my shoulder and let out a sigh--it was so sweet-I felt her breath come out...she was very tired after a long session at the Dog run.

Just another thing about ratties that is to cute to belive

Yeah... my dogs do "the sigh" too....
But it's when they wiggle down under the covers that I know they are down for the night! They all 4 sleep under the covers...

I just noticed last night that Indy does the *sigh*....   see, i don't sleep with my hearing aids.... and my kasey... he usually sleeps under the covers by my feet....So i don't notice his sigh unless he's gonna take a nap on my couch or chair.....   but Indy is different... in a very good way and he doesn't care to be under the covers, he just wants to be right by my side... and once he found his comfortable position... as if i was holding him like a baby was laying next to me.... and then my hand would be on his back or side.... and the I would feel..... that sigh.......   and u can tell, he is so happy where he is and is as content as he could be.......  and you know when he did that.... that melted my heart....   because he was in that shelter for so long and was crated almost all of his life before coming into my home and has come a long way, and just loves sleeping in bed with me.   and you can tell, he wouldn't be anywhere else but right there by my side......i can't help but love that guy!

I haven't really noticed it with my ratties all that much. Buddy used to do that every single night when he finally found the perfect position. I caught myself holding my breath more than a few times waiting for that sigh/snort thing he did...once I heard that, I knew he was fine.

Oh Yeah, we get the sigh. It's usually with a little huff of the shoulders too. I always think that there should be a "whatever" with the sigh.

yup, I've got one that does "THE SIGH". That's Piper. This is usually one of exasperation as far as i can tell. Only problem is...it comes with the "dragon breath"...

Do they really love us or are we just walking food dispensers?

I have noticed if either of my girls are laying with me and I take a big deep breath, I get the sigh out of them too and then they are out.

Fuji does the same sigh when he settles. He also makes the sigh when my 8 year old won't give him a break. She'll pick him up and I can hear the sigh like he's saying "Not again"

Aka is a great sigher. At night or during the daytime naps, he will work to get comfortable and then let out this long happy sigh and then he just melts into whatever he is sleeping on. At night, I often will do some deep breathing to relax tired cramped muscles and if I do a sigh, he does one too.

And Mardi, last night Aka got in bed with me and stretched out by my side I had my arm up over my head and when got in bed, I had moved it down and he plopped his head on my arm so I curled it around him and snuggled him close. He did the sigh and a few minutes later rolled over so all four feet were in the air and his head was thrown back and to the side over my arm. I so wished I could have gotten a photo. It was almost human like in the pleasure of sleeping.

These guys are little hams for sure. Taffy still prefers to start off sleeping in her crate but once the demonic brother who comes out at night (a la, Aka the night owl) goes to sleep, she will come and hop on the bed and find her spot next to me. Then it is a bed full of ratties and me but that's okay.

Aloha,

The other day, I was in the bathroom, getting ready for work, and I yawned. All of a sudden I heard Remington yawn, and I looked down just in time, to see him finishing it...Too cute! I am going to test all of them, when they are all around me. I am going to yawn, and see if they all do it...

With Hendryx, we say "Good Night, Bed Time." He stops what he's doing and sighs, he knows that we won't play with him anymore that night.

His name is Hendryx! He's a rat terrier! OK!
