Moose got his name from a bar as well, not that I frequent them often...really ever, but my dad took me to the Moose Lodge a lot when I was younger and some of my fondest childhood memories are from parties there. Tom thought the name was funny for such a tiny dog, and it stuck! His full name is just Moose...nothing really goes with Moose...

We call him Moo, bubba, moo bear, bean, lima bean, sweet boy, and a ton of other silly things that don't make sense but always come out when we are calling him...my personal favorite...MOOSEY MUHAMMED! We don't know where that came from but we said it the day we got him, and it's stuck...if he's being stubbourn, he will always come if we call him that.

Mikey was registered as Flinthill's Michelangelo and we started calling him Mikey because it is Mike Turner's nickname (he came from Bonnie and Mike Turner).  We were going to name our next puppy Bonnie but when we got her from Bonnie Turner she looked like an Alice (in Wonderland) so that's who she's named after.

Button got her name for the fact that her nubbie tail looks like a machine toggle button/switch to me.  But UKC said there were too many Button's on the registry and made me pick something else.  We settled on buttonbutt, knowing we would always call her button.  As I sew, Zipper just seemed a logical name for our little rescue girl.  Now that we've had her awhile and have seen how she really zips fast, we find it a most apt name for her.

Plus, Lance is always has his pants trying to fall down when he does the lawn and projects, so I told him surely with a Button and Zipper in the house, he'd be able to keep his pants on!    If we ever get a third, it will be Velcro!!!!!!!!

Wierd--I wanted to call Nora Blue, but did not want to change the name the breeder got her used to.

Then I got the papers and her name on it was BLUE NORA MAE! So she had the name I wanted but it was too late we all called her nora for 8 weeks till we got the papers and saw it---

oh well)

My husband and I both work with computers. I started using the name pixel or pixelgeek several months ago for my computer then some online forums. When it came time to name our new addition we brain stored for other names that were computer related but Pixel was the best

We are talking about after we get this one trained getting another, Ive already started thinking what we would name it lol!

One of my favorite quotes ever is "a women should always be two things-classy and Fabulous" by CoCo Chanel, so when I got my baby, ther was no question about her name. Since she is the diva, she is both classy and fabulous, and her name is perfect for her because of her brown color.

Ricky actually named Angus as part of the deal of me getting another pup. He wanted to call him Butters (yes, ater the Southpark character) but when we picked him up the name just really didn't fit him. SO we have this tiny pup, and Rick decides he has to have a hyper masculaine name. That's where we got Angus and his whole name is Angus Bangus, because well, he bangs into everything.

I named Ivy after my grandmother because I ended up having 2 boys for skin-kid and all my brothers did not have the guts to use her name as a first name and used it as a middle name and we tried a few other names but for some reason we kept going back to Ivy.  I know my grandmother would have loved that I named her after her.  She loved the critters.  My mom even approved of the name and said grandma would be pleased that I named her that (even if she hated it).   There was nothing poisonous about her!!!  One of the best people I have had the pleasure of knowing!!!!

Daisey was a pet shp purchase done before I understood the ramificaitons of pet shop purchases. But to my defense, the shop was owned by a coworker's friend who said he purchases the "culls" of breeders, those labeled as "pet quality". I did internet research and took quizzes to see what would be the right 2nd dog for us (had an evil old chihuahua) and Rat Terrier kept turning up. Had never seen a full blooded one (previously had a chi mixed with some rat) so  pet store was a good place to see what they looked like since the breeders I contacted never followed through with meeting me. So I went to the friend of the friend pet shop and there was my Daisey in a glass cage with a chihuahua!  I took it as a sign since she would be living with a chi. I wanted to name her Coconut or Macy but since she was a birthday gift for husband (yeah, right) he picked the name Daisey Mae but it's really evolved to Miss Daisey.

Eddie was easy - he came with the name. He was an owner surrender to a shelter in Milton, FL and they listed his name as Eddie. When Ratbone stepped in and freed him, his name did not change. He responded to it so I believe it was his original name and it seems to fit him. He will also answer to Ed and Edward but not so much Eduardo,

Well, when you bring home the first puppy the kids can ever remember and say that the girl with the 10th birthday gets to pick her name the list starts something like this: pixie, dottie, tinkerbell, spot, diana..........then we narrowed it down to Dottie or Tinkerbell and she decided to call her Tink short for Tinkerbell.  We haven't yet come up with something clever for her paperwork.  We'll let you know if we ever do!

My first rattie was going to be my little princess and I wanted to name her Cinderella. My son - then 5 - decided it would be Belle from Beauty and the Beast because she's cooler. (Princess Belle) Belle it was. I wasn't going to argue with the boy! She is my little Bella too - just such a sweetheart to her core. The 2nd pup we got two years later just after the 4th of July and she was VERY independent and bossy so we named her Liberty (Lady Liberty). It wasn't until a few days later that my grandma called to ask about the new pup and said oh how cute, you named your dogs Liberty & Belle.......yeah I didn't realize it until that moment! Liberty continues to be an independent, naughty, bossy, brat and Belle continues to be my gentle little princess. When we went to pick up Liberty, I took Belle along of course to see how she reacted. She wanted NOTHING to do with those annoying little furballs and they all seemed afraid of her - except little Liberty - she marched right up and moved Belle off her blankie (I brought it for moral support!). Then when I went to the car to get my purse, Miss Libby followed and wanted in the car NOW. Funny how that works! They always choose you, not the other way around. My girls are half sisters, as different as can be, and I love them both more than I ever imagined possible. Go Ratties!

Pixie didn't get her name because she's so small, as most people think.  It fits, sure.  But that wasn't my motivator

My daughter was staying with my husbands parents for a week, and since I stay at home with her, I decided to use the ENTIRE week to sleep, LOL.  I was asleep in the bed and the next thing I knew, there was a reall smelly, itty bitty dog on the bed next to me, and my husband was standing directly behind her.

I blinked a few times and asked what seems to be the only question I can ask when surprised with a new dog, "What IS it?"  He said he didn't know and then I said, "Well, whatever it is, it's got Pixie Stix for legs.  One wrong move on those babies, and it's a goner."

I checked for undercarriage and when I didn't find any, I just started calling her Pixie because of my comment about her chicken legs.  She faithfully answered to it by the end of the 2nd day.  Her owners never came forward and it just stuck.

She now answers to Pixie, Peo, P, Pixelator, Peo Pixelator, and Princess Pixie Piggles...since she'll eat it, even if it IS nailed down.

Well, the first one...I was really into Hawaiian culture at the time and named him "Kolohe" which means "rascal". Unfortunately, he must have understood Hawaiian. He's proven to live up to his name. The other, Piper, was named at the time. At first, the name was a little too close to "Pepper" who unfortunately died accidentally about a month before. But I got used to it. However, she deserves the name Kolohe more.....sigh

Do they really love us or are we just walking food dispensers?

Another family had Dazie up until she was about 13 weeks old and they had named her Daisy. The family that had her couldnt take her anymore (which was the best thing for her, they really didnt take care of her in the first place) and my boyfriend went and picked her up right away. He brought her home to me, and I cried I was so happy! I kept her name since she responded really well to it, and she is a Crazy Dazie. Her middle name is Ray because she is my Ray of Sunshine!

I got Jasmine from the local pound and there they hadn't had a name for her but most of them called her Tiny, because she was so skinny and cowardly (when we got her she was 11 pounds at a year and a half old).  We brought her home and decided Tiny definitly didn't fit her at all since she soon began to fill out after gettin over Kennel Cough.  She began acting like a little princess and we had picked out her own purple collar.  Thought Princess Jasmine  seemed to fit her personality better than Tiny (which wasn't the case since she was no longer cowardly).  Needless to say she is still living up to her name!

Rip was originally named Sergeant by the breeder. All the boys were named after military ranks. Ugh!

I named him Ripper after (yes! I admit it!) Giles from the Buffy the Vampire series. Soft-spoken and sweet, but with a rough side, The Ripper was Giles' nickname when he was young.

My partner, who was out of town when I brought Rip home, hated the name. Eventually, we compromised. His name is Ripley, which she calls him. The kids and I just call him Rip (or Ripper, Ripper-bug, or Bugboy...all of which he comes to!)

Duke was named by the foster mother. When I went thru Ratbone Rescues, I loved the name. Everyone thinks it's so fitting. When I call Duke, everyone expected this great big dog. Then Duke comes running and they laugh. I love the name!! I get lots of comments. My husband calls him Dukey.
My daughter has a rattie and she called him Toby. That came from the star wars (I think) Toby Wan Kenobi. We call him Tobster.

Ginger's full name is  "Starbux Gingerbread Latte"  after our favorite drink.

Blue's full name is "You're My Boy Blue" from my favorite movie "Old School" and because he's blue in color.

This is my first post here, because we just adopted our first rattie.  He is four or five months old and had been left by his first owner (from Texas) with a man in our town (in Wyoming).  His dogs couldn't take the energetic little guy, so the dog was put on freecycle.com where we found him.  He was called Dallas, but that didn't feel right to us.  When the kids were meeting him, they threw a ball and he ran after it with all his might, overshot the ball, and fell head over heels.  We named him Tripper.  This is also fitting because he's always underfoot, and we trip over him.  We had some issues with submissive urination at first, so he was Tripper the Dripper.  Now, it's just Tripper or Trippety Doo Da.

We've had him less than two weeks and just adore him.  Our other dogs are getting used to him too.  I promise to post pics in the bio thread very soon.

Hi rattie lovers,

I am brand new to this forum and like all of you, am completely owned by my rat terrier! Pippin is 5 months old and is my baby boy. I can't imagine not having him in my life. My husband and I can't imagine life without him, even though he is the biggest cuddle bug and attention hog! We call him our Brat Terrier!

Pippin got his name from the Lord of the Rings books and I must say, it absolutely fits his personality. He is feisty, stubborn, curious, yet intelligent. In the books, Pippin always seems to get into trouble even though his intentions are good.

I look forward to reading and sharing more stories!

First of all I have to say I love this site!!!  Have read alot of interesting things on here.

This forum was neat, how you came up with names for your pups.  That was the

hardest thing for me.  When we got our pup at 6 weeks her name was Bella.  I really

didnt like that, she didnt answer to it anyway.  So beings we got here in December, we

decided on "Holly".  she answers to puppy, baby, and infant too.  My husband always called

her infant.  Being the runt she fit in the palm of his hand and weighed only 3 lbs when we

got her. But now boy oh boy, I can think of alot of names. lol.  She is my little terror!!   Its been tough at

times, but we gotta take the bad with the good.  Holly loves loves loves attention!  She has me

wrapped around her little paw, and she knows it.
