Everytime I go outside, Bingeaux has to come with me and check the yard to make sure I'm safe. I guess he thinks I can't take care of myself. I thought I was a big boy, but I guess he doesn't think so.  He has a pattern he runs in the yard and he checks all 4 corners. If I manage to go outside without him, he will sit at the door and look out the window and yip. It's not like he has to go to the bathroom everytime I go outside and 95% my wife is still inside so it's not like he's lonely. I'm not complaining, I just think it's funny that a 15 pound rattie thinks he needs to protect a 6'2" 200 pound man.

Mine isn't quite that brave. We'll be sleeping in bed, she'll hear a noise, run UNDER the bead and bark like hell.

He has been unsuccessful in actually catching the squirrels at our place. He has pretty much run them all off because I don't see them around much anymore. He has gotten close at my in-law's house. Suprisingly, neither one of my in-law's ratties had much interest in chasing squirrels or even being outside much. He does have a couple of possum kills under his belt. One was at my house and the other was at my in-laws. Once he saw them, there was no stopping him. He also flushed a rabbit at a friend of our's house, but I think he wanted to play with it.  He never really ran hard after it and he didn't have that same look that he had with the possums. There are quite a few deer that roam the property behind ours and he likes to stand at the fence and bark at them. He's pretty tough as long as that fence is between them.

Kasey likes to be on guard all the time.... he hasn't killed anything yet.... but runs them off... and he doesn't like it when a stray dog comes around his area...   when he gets in his protective mode it's hard to get his attention....  Indy on the other hand....  I've had him for a month or so now, and he is much more laid back....  He lets Kasey do his job. lol

Haha, Skipper is the perimeter guard at our house. Mitzy is a close second at that.

My mother-in-law had 2 ratties named Dixie and Milo, but Milo passed away about 2 months ago. Neither one of them had much interest in chasing squirrels or anything for that matter. They were definitely inside couch potatos. Bingeaux loves to veg out on the couch some, but I think he likes being outside better. He has a HUGE black lab next door that will run along the fence with him. The lab is getting up in age so he will get tired and lay down and rest by the fence and Bingeaux will get about 10 feet away from the fence and try to sneak up on him like a cat.

Hendryx checks the yard after our late night ride/walks. He has come so far since the puking puppy days. Now he glares out the dashboard waiting to see a rabbit. When we walk he is constantly looking and sniffing trails. When we ride back down the driveway (I do the car ride bit because we have invisible fence and he's not supposed to be walked over the barrier - even without his IF collar on), I put his collar back on and he does the ratty 500 a couple of times around the house, then he stalks up and down the landscaping for a few minutes, then he tries to peer around each corner of the house to see if something is trying to sneak by. Only then will he come back in the house (doggy door) and go upstairs to go to bed with us.

His name is Hendryx! He's a rat terrier! OK!
