It's amazing what almost two weeks of NO ACTIVITY will do.... (to humans and furbabies alike!).

I took Bailey to his class last night... he received a 1/2 hour massage (he LOVES these... almost goes to sleep! LOL) and 1/2 hour of agility.  He did ok... but by the end of the 1/2 hour he was pretty well spent.  Mel showed me how to warm Bailey up prior to exercising... and how to appropriately stretch him following exercise.  I've always warmed him up prior to exercise, but have not been one to stretch him afterwards, so this will take some getting used to.  Not only am I not familiar with it, but Bailey is like "WHAT are you doing???" haha   So... we'll get better at this as time passes.

We were driving home and passed Dave's house (the professional police/bomb/drug dog trainer I know very well and have worked with off and on for years). He was out in the yard with his solid black german shepherd working him.  It was dusk... he says because he's black he can't work him outside in this heat during the day, so he works him at dusk.   I pulled in and sat with Bailey in the chair and watched.  OMG ... it was awesome!   Dave and this beautiful black german shepherd are headed to the schutzhand nationals in a few months.  I enjoyed this last night so much.... I had forgotten how much fun it is to work with Dave and watch him work these unbelievable animals!

Dave gave me some great pointers on teaching Bailey the "back" command.  Bailey knows how to walk backwards on command when he's in front of me.  But I'm having trouble getting him to do it BESIDE me...   so now I have an "assignment" to work on for the next two weeks, and I go back in two weeks so he can see how I've done with it.

See? I'm constantly in training too!  Still much to be learned ... for all of us!

I'm glad that Bailey is off his doc ordered crate rest and that you've discovered how to work with him even better than before to head off anymore issues - I read your post about the "straight leg" (sorry forget the term you used) condition. Hopefully all the pre and post warm up activities will keep him from any future injury But now I've been studying pictures of Daisy trying to see if she has proper angulation, but not sure exactly what/where to look.

Give Bailey some smooches from Auntie Tracey and tell him I'm so glad he's going to be just fine.

Tracey... next time you take Miss Daisy in for a vet check for any reason, simply ask him about it. It doesn't take x-rays to determine... he'll be able to tell just by looking at Daisy when she's standing straight.

It's no big deal if you aren't doing any type of strenuous physical activity with her... and most people don't. It's just good information to know about so we can all be aware.

Bailey sends his Miss Daisy big ole' ~~HUGS~~ !! Says he can't wait to meet her in April '08 !!

Nora, we also have a cop named Dave who has a Black German Shepherd, The Dog is Jack, and I have some pics of Dave and Jack at during a Drill.  It IS really exciting to watch them work.  I always take the time to watch cops drilling their dogs if I hear about it.  There is a great festival near here and they always do a demo of their police and k9 units working together, it is so neat to watch dogs search a vehicle.  Everyone should see that.      Before we know it Bailey will become a police dog, kind of like that little rattie chi mix in Ohio that is the world's littliest k9 cop.  Bailey will be right there doing drug searches before long.  Bailey IS one amazing dog, I think Lucy has a crush on him.

Jan -- it's hard to keep up these days, isn't it? I don't even try -- it's impossible... but thanks so much for your kind words!

Bailey being a police dog? Oh now, Barb.... that's truly FUNNY!!! He would just lick the suspects to death! hahahaha...

And Paul... Bailey and I still have MUCH to learn !!
