How do you teach your little dogs not to jump on your legs when they are excited and want to be scratched, ya know when they are standing on there back feet and have their front paws/nails on your legs.  Its not so annoying with little dogs, but some times you have shorts on or dress cloths on and don't want that, those little nails hurt on bare skin, lol our damage panty hose.  I try and firmly tell trixie DOWN, but its hard because she is just excited to see us and I feel like we are scolding her when she is happy.  With big dogs I would hold their two front paws up until they couldn't stand it anymore and that always seemed to work with the jumping up.  Little dogs its not that easy to get them.

I have to firmly tell Lucy "NO" and I anticipate her jumping up and I back away a step just as she jumps up so that she 'misses' her target. She has gotten so much better about not jumping, but still will occasionally do it when I come home from the store and she thinks that surely to goodness I haven't forgotten to bring her a present!

Put the dog on a leash and hold her down... saying "off" (or "no"... or whatever command you decide to use). If she knows how to sit... tell her "off" "sit" and when she does, give her a treat... always holding the leash so that you have control. If she tries to jump.. pull her back down and ask her to sit... give her a treat. Eventually she'll get the message, but don't expect immediate results. Jumping is one of the things this breed LOVES to do, and it simply comes naturally!
