Opel just turn two months old yesterday and I want to start training her I am not sure where to actaully start we are working on pottying outside now do I need to wait for her to be house broken to work on other commands? She is understands the word No and and i sto th epoint saying it once in a firm voice stops her behavior. she like sto nip when she plays hands and feet. which I am trying to discourage she has a lot of bouncy fun energy which is great. I love her lil persoanilty I just want to teach her how to interact properly with others and not nip play for fear she will want to or think its acceptable and actaually bite harder. I am at a lost to where to begin but I bought some training treats and we are gearing to go. Leash training is going slow but she is doing better.

It's definitely not to early to begin training her now with the basic commands. Nora, our training moderator, always, always recommends that the very first thing you teach is the "come" or "recall" command. Ultimately this is the one command that can and may one day save your dog's life as well as teaching your dog to focus on you, reinforces your Alpha status, and makes teaching other commands easier.

I know she has posted how to begin training this command before and I will see if I can find the link to her other posts about it. I"m sure as soon as she logs in and sees this, she will have lots of advice for you and Opel.

Hi just a lil update Training Come ha snot taken off well. Opel wil only come on he rlevel if I stand up and say come she thinks I am nuts if I bend down she is all for it so we are working on it. But here are a few things we have accomplisha nd almost beat together.

We can now rub Opel's tummy without becoming a chew toy.

We can almost speak for food on cue .... We can definatly beg like a rabid monkey over Ice cream which gets ignore now.

We have learned to "Leave it" when it come sto other's poop even that of birds.

Well Leash walking is failing but the ground there is maybe 20 seconds before she freaks out so its a lil better.

I appreciate all the help thanks

That's quite a lot for Opel to have learned in three days! I'm impressed!

But you still need to concentrate on the "come" command and not go to other commands simply because "come has not taken off well". It's important... and may very well one day save your dog's life.

oh my no she has learned that in her almost 2 1/2 weeks since we have had her. But we are doing some lil improvement with the come command I am not using treats. I may start using them.

You will be much more successful with the "come" command if you use treats... or at least something your dog really loves (a toy might work). Also... I would highly recommend using a long line so you will have ultimate control. If you give the come command and don't get a response, you can "reel" her in and give her a treat once she gets to you. I promise it works! But it's not a quick process... it takes time... patience... and commitment.. and most of all consistency !

Nora you are a doll I tried to explain that to hubby he said I would end up strangling her and I knew if I could reel her in a few times she would get the jest of it. So far she will come if I am on her level if I stand still nothing and she don't come every time either so today we will start treat training ty.
