I hope it's ok to post this in Training...if not maybe a moderator can move it.  It's a horse training video but although the actual training is totally different with dogs - it seems to me that the principle is the same.

These are dressage horses (the kind of riding I do) and they are all "acting up" probably from freshness or fear of going past something or just testing the rider.  The BEST way to handle this is to RIDE THEM FORWARD - i.e. calmly sit back, keep your legs on them, half-halt and keep pushing them forward even if they buck, rear, whatever.  No need for harsh bits or whipping the horse until welts form, etc.

Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNMIz-RjJyw

Great video, MB!  What is it 'they' say -- no bad horses, only bad riders.  Well that was excellant riding!  I love to watch a 'problem' horse transform into a joy to ride!   And you are so right, cruelty should not and does not have to be used!

The gray made me think of Chief (he's such a good boy!)

The grey reminded me of him, too.
Did you notice the part where the rider almost fell off, but managed to cling to the side and pull herself back on? Looked like that happened in the warm-up area at a show - embarrassing!

Yes, that was a great feat -- I would have been on the ground!

I've been there. Usually you have to pull yourself back on and hope the horse stops moving. But once when Flyer bucked especially hard and once when he went an unexpected way over a jump - both times that horse changed his body to come back under me so I wouldn't fall off! I loved that horse.

Chassis likes to come to a stop, and then move at the last minute.
I don't ride dressage but i like alot of the training methods.
