Is it possible for a dog to be afraid of the dark?i ask this because anytime i let Cassie out during the night she barks her head off but if i shine a flashlight around while she's out,she doesn't bark.is it possible she's afraid of the dark?she won't bark during the day,it's just during the night.

btw i'm not sure if i put this in the right section or not.

I bet its possible. When Mic was a baby at night if I got up to leave the bedroom and left him alone, he would start barking in this high pitched bark. I had to take him with me if I got up! But during the day he was always fine to be left alone... I wonder if he was afraid too and just grew out of it since he doesn't care anymore...

It may have more to do with all the animals wandering around at night (and with the smells/noises that go with them), than with the darkness. My ratties don't like going outside at night until the big dogs have made sure it's "safe" for the babies. Once the big guys have scared away anything that may be lurking around, they'll go out and are fine.

I think maybe she just can't see as well so it makes every noise scarier?
