Yesterday we bought a beautiful rat terrier off of a breeder. He is around 11 weeks old.
He seems to be very very shy. Today is his second day at our house (we picked him up last night). When we go to pet him, he kind of dips his head down, as if hes going to be hit (don't know if that's what he thinks, but i'm just giving an example of what it looks like). Everytime we stand up in the backroom where his crate is, he will run off into his crate, and we have to pull his bed out to get him out. He doesn't seem to like the treats we bought him (milk bones and these other variety cheese, bacon, meat treats). When trying to teach him the here command (his first command) he doesn't seem to respond at all, he just looks around aimlessly.
I figure this is problably because he isn't used to our house ? He left a farm paradise to come to a house with few animals. We have a kitty, well 8 year old cat, and they don't hate eachother (no barking or mewing) but they dont really like eachother either. My sister also has another puppy for him to play with for a few hours each day.
Is this typical behaviour for a puppy who has just came home ?
Thanks so much,
