Glenna, my daughter, is always good about taking the pups out when they need to go but Bill never was.  He just thinks if they get taken outside twice a day that should be enough....but since I work very hard to have Mayfly potty outside instead on on the puppy pad it's isn't enough.  When we're not home they mostly sleep and don't have accidents. When I'm home they're right with me everywhere and I watch them closely so if one of them tells me they have to "go" I take them right away.

Bill simply doesn't pay that much attention and when he was home all day last week we had two accidents.  Not Mayfly - Skipper peed in the hall once and Mitzy on the floor.  And I'm fairly certain they told him they needed to go out but he was just to busy and expected them to hold it.  Well, that will work with Loco but the little ones ask for a short while and then if no one takes them out - they go anyway - on the floor!  The one exception is Mayfly...if there's no pad laid out she will hold it a long time.

Anyone else have training issues made more difficult by other people in the house?

Oh, most definitely. Haven't had too much problems with the potty issue as now Daisy makes it clear that she needs out, by either sitting at the door and staring at you and then barking if you don't get up to let her out.

But on some other issues, like rough-housing, jumping on people, etc....we've still got some work to do on everyone being consistent

Terry did most of Bob's potty training since we got him during his off season and he was home all the time. So he's good about letting him out. He's also teaching him tricks, like high five, and now he's trying to teach him to wave, which is a modified high five. Zack and Travis don't pay that much attention to him.

I had Maxi litter-box trained, because he was so small.
Hubby made it so difficult, because:
1. He would NOT keep Maxi in his crate. He worked from home, said the whimpering got to him.
2. He let Maxi have run of the house and with smaller dogs, it's difficult for them to understand that ALL of the house is part of their domain.

It took for-ever for me to get that little doggie housebroken.

This time around, I'm working from home and I've enrolled Penny in an obedience class. Hubby can watch, but he's not to do any handling, or I'm gonna do some handling when we get home.

I know what you mean! Bandit comes with me to the office & I've had trouble with some of the employees/clients encouraging him to chew on their fingers & to jump up on them. I'm trying to teach him to greet people properly & I turn around to see someone standing there - "C'mere Bandit! Jump! Jump!", patting their chest to see how high he can go... He never nips me anymore & has become much better with my toddler, but with this one lady he knows he can get away with it & now that he's bigger he really gets her good every once in a while. He's still got those razor sharp puppy teeth that draw blood & she doesn't think it's cute anymore. She said she didn't want to bring in her daughter to meet him because he's too "bitey". I had to hold my tongue to keep from saying "Well, actually you're the only one he nips anymore – and it's your own fault!"

Yup! Its the "adult"kids, mine, I had trained them better when they were small and now that they are grownups they think that they don't have to follow Mom's dog rules anymore! GRRRR! In between them and my 5 year old grand daughter I want to hire a trainer for them and just leave the dogs at home with me. My husband on the other hand is great about the dogs and trying to go with the rules when I am trying to house train or leash train or teach tricks.

ANYTHING WORTH DOING IS WORTH OVERDOING Mom of eight, only three left at home! Pack leader to ten ratties: Maggie, Mysty, Berry, Simon, Ceecee and five puppies, Star,Sari, Bluebelle, Double stuf, and Snortie. As well as Ginger the Border Collie and a herd of turkeys!

Very much so agree with you.  Husband does not help what so ever with the training.

Anytime Bama has to go out, he comes to me. If I'm busy, I'll tell him to go tell Daddy, but he just sits and waits for me to finish up. I really wonder about those times I'm not here and it's just Bama and John.

I'm afraid I'm going to have a harder time with housebreaking Ali. She was two weeks older when I got her--which isn't really an issue--but we were on vacation last week so everything was kind of out of sync, and this week I have to be gone for part of the day on Tues., Wed., and Thurs. Next week will be just as bad, and then the next week I'll be back at work starting on Wednesday. I'm thinking I'll be having lots of accidents to take care of!
