Wolf started out in a pen because I couldn't get him in and out of a crate.  One night I heard him moving around, and then I heard the bell on his collar jingling as he trotted down the hall, and that was the end of the pen.   He's fine in the house when we're here, but I know I had to get him crate or cage trained to keep him in one place while we're gone or we travel.  He hated his first crate and wouldn't go near it.  He also outgrew it.  So, instead of buying a new crate we cleaned up the one Mack had as a puppy.  We put a new bed in it, and Wolf loves it!  He's even given up sleeping on the couch and has moved his supply of bo-bos and stuffies and squeaky toys to a spot just outside the crate where he can grab them as needed.  I think he's in there as I write this.  He's even stopped stashing stuff under my bed and the couches.

is there a logical explanatiion for this?

Oh definitely. Lucy loves her crate. She rarely, almost never gets locked in there, but will hang out in there if I'm busy or not here. Half the time she wont even get out when I walk through the door. They love small spaces and their crate is their own personal space. I think that they find their crates to be very comforting. I would just make a very nice bed in there for them. Lucy has a pillow on bottom, a little camping pillow that came with my sleeping bag and several blankets. It is a great thing when they become fond of their kennels because you know they will be happy when they do need to be locked in there.

That new crate must be covered in mack's old doggy cologne! Maybe that's why he likes it, because it's already been 'broken in'? I think it's so funny that your dog moved all his toys within reach of his new crate. Don't you just wonder what goes through their minds????

you know my boomer does that he will just go snooze in the crate even if he doesnt have to he will lay there for hours sleeping.. I think he likes it because it is the only place in the house where he KNOWS he is safe from everything.. (kids included-I dont allow them to bug him while he is in there) my other dogs would NEVER have just gone in the kennel and slept they were fine to go in when I told them to go in but they did not snooze there they would much rather have been on the couch......(which I hate having the big dogs on the couch the are too heavy and tear it....Boomer is ok thought-Mr. primadonna) anyway funny that other RT love thier kenels too....
