Just returned home awhile ago from an all-day (six hours) agility workshop, conducted by my trainer at the facility where I have my weekly private lessons.  I almost didn't register for the workshop, because it was for dogs at the excellent level... not the novice level.  But I did because Mel said she would help me, and she encouraged me to come.  So... Bailey and I went.

Well folks.... Mr. Bailey and I ran a 24-obstacle course today for the very FIRST time!!!  It was not lightening fast, but it was 100% accurate.  This little dog did not refuse any obstacle or contact... knocked over NO poles... hit his mandatory contacts dead on as he has been trained to do... hit the pause table with a down like clock-work.  I'm still reeling from excitement... am on cloud nine!  I'm telling you... Bailey didn't miss a beat, and we ran the course like the team we've been working so hard for the past 9 months to become!  Mel (trainer) even said SHE was pleasantly surprised.

I brought a copy of the course home to put in Bailey's scrapbook!  This is a crossroads for us, and I was told today that I would be competing in the October trial that is being held here locally ... Bailey will be two years old in October.  I never dreamed we'd be competing that quickly!

Anyways... I've had an awesome day filled with interaction with lots of dog people from across the state.  It was so much FUN !!  (Wouldn't you know it?  I left my video camera at home!)

(unless I chicken out, of course...that's always a possibility). BIG difference in doing it today and doing it at an AKC trial.

Awesome! You and Bailey have really worked hard, so it has got to be SO exciting to see the benefits of it paying off.

Yes... he is, Mary Beth. I'm so proud of him! But it's the teamwork I'm even more proud of. Bailey has had a good handle on the obstacles for a long time... I'VE been the holdup. He will go anywhere you ask him to go, but the handler has to know how to give those commands and much of it is through body language rather than verbal. He's zonked in his bed right now.... and I'm gonna take my bath and chill for awhile too.

Oh, I know Nora! I remember how frustrated you used to get when you first started agility....and now look at you! We all knew you could do it though - I don't think any of us doubted you for a minute.

Wow! That sounds exciting and fun too! I would like to do something like that one day with Amos. First though, I think "we" need an obedience class. lol

Nora, OMG!  I can't wait till I get to tell all my family that I knew you guys way back when!  I mightbe doing that sooner than I think.  It is fate you know, I remember when you first got on rt.com telling us about that little rattie that showed up on your doorstep, then got claimed, then came back, etc, well you already know that story!  Bailey is a super dog for sure, and of course you gotta know by now, that YOU, are also his SUPER MOM!  Way to go you two, what a team.
