| Don't like them. I accidently walked into one, at a bon fire in high school. Ouch! I almost peed on myself. What about an invisible fence? |

| I'm curious- what kind of voltage od they put out? How does one compare to a shock collar/ invisible fence? |

I held the collar of one of those invisible fences once, and accidentally walked over the line, and the shock was SO painful, it made my finger numb.... they scare me... |

Ok, so i am being a baby about not wanting Trixy on it. My husband and I got one, but neither one of us want to put Trixy on it because we don't want to hurt her. She is so little, we have it on the lowest setting. We have friends tha have a min pin, that dog wore the collar, they told me that once he was trained he was fine. It is the training part of it that, I don't like. thank you guys. |

I am not quite sure, all I know is that this fence that we have only works if you have to collar on. If my kids were playing in the back yard, it would not bother them. I would have to ask my husband about the voltage, he tried it and said it didn't feel good, but wasn't terribly painful, of course he is 6 ft tall too. i will ask, him. |

Yea, I don't want to do that to my trix. I made my husband try it because I was too scared, I don't like pain. my dog is not going to wear that thing. |

so what did they do to "train" the min-pin? Personally I'd never consider an electric fence or an invisible fence with shock collar for ratties or any dog for that matter. Just not my kind of training and reinforcement. Shocking only sends negative messages. I know some on this site use them and will disagree with me- that's okay. They just aren't for me. |

I have the invisible fence and both my dogs are trained to it. Egypt has been shocked once, and Zeus never. I trained them using the audible signal and the flags. The only reason Egypt got the shock (and it is static, not electric) is because she went to an area that she had not trained in and the only way to go was straight back and she did not know that. Now she hangs out in that spot in the front of the house (she has to stay flush with the foundation of the house to avoid the sound) and barks at the passers-by from beneath the rhododendrons. LOL. They have a blast running around the yard and it has been a godsend to us. We have them at the medium-low setting. And yes, it does give a pretty strong charge, but remember it is not electric so it doesn't scramble their brains or anything like that (my old dog Luna had been electrocuted many times before I rescued her and I know what scrambled brains is like). |

See, I guess I am aliitle confused on the part of it, is is negative or positive training. From our friends said, they flagged out the area, put the dog on a leash and when the dog went to the flags, they called him back and said, yea, Gordy's (that is the dogs name) yard and gave him a treat and praised him. After he realized that if he went near the flags he needed to come back, then, they put the collar on him and a leash. the collar beeps before it shocks, they walked him around and when it beeped the called him to the inside of the area and said Gordy's yard, They also said that it obviously doesn't take long for a dog to realize that if the go around the flags it will shock. the bad part is that you want tot make sure that the dog knows which way to run, because if it runs the opposite way of the fence, it will continue to shock them. That scares me too. Also, seems like a lot of work, don't you think? |

It did not take my dogs long at all. I had Zeus trained after one day, Egypt took three days. Zeus is very timid and after getting pulled back from the flag once, he never wanted to get near it again. Egypt is my doordarting Rattie 500 winning speed demon. She would take off almost every day before I got the fence, and jsut taunt me from the woods. There would "sightings" of a little white body bounding over logs, but it would take me HOURS to get her back. She would not come and only when she was tired would she venture back to the yard from the woods. Now, since I praise them to the heavens every single time they come away from the fence when I am out there with them, they have no "real" negative connotations with it. Like I said, Egypt got the zap once, and I felt HORRIBLE about it. She now knows the boundary though, and even at a full run after a rabbit, knows when that beep comes, stop and turn around. |

my friends said that it was great for their little dog too. But, I guess if I got shocked I would learn quick too, lol! Thank you!!! I still can not bring myself to shock Trix. My husband is definately going to have to do it if he decides to. I am a wimp! I would be nice to keep her in the yard. She is really good about staying in the yard, it is only when the construction wrokers who are biulding a house on the side of us, are out. she has to greet them. She always comes be after her hello's, but I that point I am usually ready to wring her neck. Like i said, it is not a constant thing. |

| There are lots of dogs with invisible fences here in our neighborhood, my worry about it would be that while it would keep our dogs in, it wouldn't keep other dogs out. We don't have a fence, so our girls only go out with us monitoring them. They are very good about staying in the yard. |

that was our big concern too, but we do not let her out unless we are out with her, as well. I am just now getting used to using the bathroom while I have her on a leash. before she wouldn't, do it, i guess she was shy, . But that is usually when she would run off, I would let her out and she would use the bathroom and see someosay ne working on the house next door and would/does not care what i say. she is off to say hello, even though it would not bother me, i just don't want it to bother anyone else. you know? thanks. |

Petsafe wireless fence = great. easy, cheap and effective. Shemp tested it twice and never again. After the batteries died, when never replaced them. We have even put the units away. He will not cross the learned border unless on a leash. You can adjust the shock. Yes, I tried it my self. It felt the same as licking a 9V battery with something other than our tongue. Although, you must follow the manufacters training schedule. Which takes about two weeks. It does work. |
