I just read this whole thread. When a closeminded person asks for help, they don't really want help. They just want to be told that they are right.

I guess Damon feels everyone here should agree that putting two small, un-neutered rat terriers out loose with two rotties is THE thing to do.  I see many things "wrong" with this entire scenario, but to spend my time and energy trying to offer advice to someone who has already made a decision would serve no useful purpose at this point.

Odd that he didn't mention ANY training at all even when asked about it.  I can't... (and don't think ANY responsible trainer can) give advice to anyone when they have no clue what previous training has been done.  To try to offer advice when you aren't physically present to see what triggers inappropriate behavior is hard enough.... but even more difficult when you don't have all the facts.  I DO know that having two un-neutered males in a household is not the best case scenario.  I also know though that it can be done and accomplished relatively successfully with proper training.  But this training needs to be done EARLY and not started when a dog or dogs are one year of age.   Because I have NO idea how much if any training has been done in this case... I'm at a huge disadvantage when it comes to offering advice.

I agree. This is probably not a good situation. Hopefully the Rotties are neutered, otherwise they'll have an even worse situation on their hands. (Although the situation could be bad even if they are neutered). In case the original poster does read this, the people on here may be very pro neuter, but that is for a reason. A lot of the people on here work rescue and see far too many unwanted dogs. So I suppose they have a bias toward neutering. Also, since 60% of animals end up in shelters due to untreated behavioral problems, they would much rather see a dog get neutered, especially if it is contributing to a behavioral problem. I don't think anyone here was doing anything but sincerely trying to help. We only want to see what is best for the pups and for the owners.

Yeah... this makes me so sad. Not only because the poor ratties are having to live outside and could get hurt from fighting...

But because you know that there are going to be lots more half ratties wandering around wherever this guy lives.
