Hello,
I'm having a problem with Lola and I can't figure out the reasons for it. Lola gets along beautifully with each of the other dogs and cats in the boarding house we live in -- and that's important, since there are five other dogs and six cats! There are two living rooms, one that is more "ours" than the other, and when the other dogs wander back here or when they're all in the pen together she does fine (unless there is food involved -- then she might let out a low growl, but nothing more).
But our DVD player is broken and we've been making occasional forays into the "other" living room to watch movies. I like to take Lola with me, and I take her on a leash. She sits on my lap or beside my chair on the floor.
The problem is that when any pets get close to us in that other living room -- including MY CAT, whom she knows well and shares a bedroom with! -- she growls and barks ferociously! The cats like to come by for a petting, and the dogs are always wandering about. Any time they get close to us or to Daniel, she gets extremely defensive. It only happens in that other living room, not anywhere else in the house, and not with strange dogs out in public. (She does bark at strange dogs occasionally, although she's getting much better about that -- yesterday's trip to the vet and then the park did not yield ANY barking -- yay!)
Any ideas on the reasons behind her extreme defensiveness just in that one room? It seems backwards to me -- I would think that if she were going to be possessive about me and Daniel, she would also be possessive about "her" living room, not about the other one! |
