Ok, again bare with me on this. Ive never had a dog before. We have Pixel and have had her about 2.5 weeks now. I have read the stuff on house training but here is the problem.

During the night she is crated, during the day she stays in a room with the door shut. When Im home of course I can take her out to potty but during the day she has to use potty pads. Well Im not sure how long potty training typically takes. She is supposed to be in a play pen but she just climbs out in the closed room. For whatever reason she poops on the couch in that room (doesnt seem to pee). I actually caught her when I put her in there she was trying to climb the playpen because she had to poop (right at the area where the couch is and where she has been pooping on it).

She has done really well in her crate at night, this morning was the only time she had an accident in there and it was my fault. She stays in there all night and lately hasnt even needed to potty in the middle of the night. This morning I took my shower and got ready before I let her out (like I said my fault).

Last night I was very proud she was actually running to the sliding glass door and I let her out, then sometimes she wouldnt come back in right away, seemed that she actually had to pee again or poop before she was ready to come back in. She still seems to like running up the stairs and peeing in the hallway though I guess I should get a gate so she cant go upstairs?

What is the typical amount of time that it takes before your dogs are house trained?

Be patient.... it sounds like the success you are having with crating her at night is paying off, and as she matures you'll be able to crate her during the day and maybe leave her uncrated at night (or vice versa). So you have this to look forward to! GOOD FOR YOU for crate training her !!

I would purchase an x-pen and put piddle pads in it during the day... set it up in a location that has flooring that urine cannot hurt (linoleum... tile, etc.).

And yes.. it's wise to get a gate to partition those areas of the house you don't want her to enter.

x pen? We have this http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?pcatid=544 like I said she just climbs out and poops on the couch. Is there something that I can put on the couch to keep her off it? I have some of that sticky paws tape for the cats or maybe I can get some spray or something? I corrected her several times in the playpen this weekend when she had to poo and got her to poo on the pads. Im hoping that helps. I honestly dont care about the carpet in the room she stays in during the day, its old and it just gives me an excuse to replace it when she is trained.

I am looking forward to her sleeping with us at night and maybe crating during the day. I think she needs to be further along in potty training before I can do that too because I fell asleep with her and she evidently woke up and peed on my husbands side of the bed then came back and went back to sleep with me, hubby noticed when he came to bed. He usually puts her in the crate at that point. Since this incident we havent let her sleep in the bed with me really, we put in her in the crate when I go to bed, though it makes me sad because I like to cuddle with her.

She's not old enough to sleep all night in the bed with you (guess you learned that already though, right? LOL).
Yes.. what you have is an x-pen.. hard to believe your little furkid already climbs out of it.
I would still NOT leave her in the room with the couch. Can't you confine her to the kitchen or bathroom?

She has more room in the room with the xpen because we got the extension kit. But I certainly do have a bathroom that we can stick her in. You think thats better than the 'game room' with the playpen. She climbed out like the second or 3rd day she was in it! its 26 inches high. She is crazy. The bathroom like I said is much smaller. Should I tape the cabinets shut and remove everything from the floor (also worried she can climb on the toilet then on the counter. This is a bathroom we dont use very often as we have 2 others. Kitchen wouldnt be bad either, though again do i need to put like child safety locks on the cabinets? I could just get a pet gate and lock her in there (if she doesnt jump or climb over it).

Ill take pictures tonight to help things make more sense. The couch she is pooping on is not our everyday couch (which i dont think she would potty on because she sleeps on it with me) its in our game room but its still pretty nice non the less.
