Hi,

I just adopted a 3 yr old female rat terrier (Jeepers) and she is a doll.  Unfortunately, I am having trouble with her potty training.  The first couple of days I had her I walked her with my Husky so they would get to be friends.  Then, my backyard flooded 2x.  So, now the yard is fine but she won't go potty there.  In fact, she doesn't really want to go potty anywhere and holds it until she can't any longer.  I tried crating her and taking her out every hour BUT she held her stuff overnight and nearly into the next night - almost 18 hours.  I finally took her on a walk because I was afraid she would become ill.  She is holding it all day and only going potty 2x a day even with walks.  Any suggestions?  Btw, I've never had a small dog b4 but I have had many large dogs and I used to rescue when I was much younger.  I have never run into this problem - is this at all normal?  Any suggestions on how to get her more used to going?  Oh, and I have taken her alone and also with my Husky.  My Husky girl thinks she is male and marks everything and has no problem going in the backyard.  So no lack of example.  Jeepers came from a foster home where she had a doggie door and outside access of 3 acres whenever she wanted.  I don't have that option.  I hope you can help.  Thanks!

It sounds like she is potty trained! So she isn't going in the house? And is she drinking and eating !normally? I wouldn't worry unless you notice a change in eating/drinking. I used to have a great dane that would refuse to go out and potty if it was raining and could hold it for days!! LOL Hopefully once she is more comfortable she will start making a schedule for herself.
