Scary walk with Marley today.  We were a mile away from home during our walk and Marley slips out of his harness.  We were in a vacant lot where a school used to stand and about 100 feet from the busiest highway in town.  I remembered reading in one of the training posts about not panicking, (Hubby is standing there, speechless staring at the empty harness) Marley is frolicking around, so I go down on one knee and calmly say "Marley, come.  snack"  Marley stops, looks at me and runs over and sits down.  I grabbed his collar and said "Good come Marley, Good come"   I got his harness back on and we came home.  He did get a snack then.  We have been working on come, sit, down, and stay.  So, to whoever wrote the advice about keeping your voice calm when your dog gets loose, a big heartfelt  thank you.

Super scary! Skipper slipped out of puppia harness once right beside a road. Luckily he didn't know he was loose and I just reached down caught him.

PHEW! I'm glad you got him back safely! Good recall training though - yay! From now on, snack in pocket when we go out, yes?

OMG I would have been so scared! Fuji does not always come when I call him. The problem is bigger when he is out in the yard. Your story only reinforces the fact that I need to work harder on his training. I am very glad things turned out Ok for you.
