welcome to the rat terrier site you will like it here I had trouble at first walking my rat on a lesh after a while she got the hang of it. When you leave the house you can put music on . The name will come in time to it toke oreo a little time. Just keep on saying it when you call juggalo and juggalo will catch on .

Hello and welcome to the site as well as to the wonderful world of Ratties! I am sure that when Nora the Training Moderator sees this she will have most excellent advice for you. First off though I would say just be very very patient. Juggalo is stil very young. House breaking - what I did was to take Yaz outside every 15 min. or so and definitely everytime she woke from a nap. Take her to the same spot and say "Find a spot." Or something similar. Knowing her name will come with time as well as recal. I know Nora has great recall training tips. Crying when you leave, well Yaz is almost 2 and she still freaks when we leave. Rat Terriers just love their people. Be sure she has plenty of chew toys and make sure she is good and tired. Best of luck!

I knew I was forgetting something. Walking on a leash- what issues are you having? WhenYaz was a pup she would not budge so I would pick her up and carry her on our walks. Not very productive. The vet said to put her down and gently tug her along and she would get the hint. It worked. If your issue is pulling, keep making her sit and calm down every few steps. Also don't pull back on the leash. Gently pull to the side then relax. NEVER let your dog walk in front of you. That establishes them as leader.

Are you crate training? If not check out the crate training post pinned at the top of this forum, very helpful for the housetraining and leaving your new puppy alone.

As far as the leash, let her just wear it around the house for a while (when you are there with her, never alone) until she gets used to it.

As far as her name - constant repetition. You've only had her 3 days! She'll learn her name eventually. She's just a baby and all this will take a while - it's your job to teach her all these things as puppies don't come "preprogrammed". LOL

Welcome! Don;t forget we need pics! I fully agree with crate training, it is priceless. As mentioned, she will learn her name in time as well as get used to her leash. Potty training is all about timing and consistency. Do not expect it to happen overnight. Key times to take her out are after sleeping, playing or eating.....giver her time to relieve herself. If she does not go, that is when a crate can help. I would then crate mine for 15min and take them out again and repeat until they went. When inside, make sure to keep an eye on her at all times and take her out often. Good luck, there are many posts more in depth on potty training and crate training that would be worth checking out.

Welcome and congrats on getting your new RT pup!!  They are the best!! There's already a lot of great advice given here, and I can only add to just be patient!!   Your pup is very young still and it will get the hang of things and so will you!  There is a lot of great info on the training thread- also lots of great books on house training etc out there.  Arm yourself with knowledge and be consistant and you'll do fine!  Good luck! Can't wait to see pics!

Housebreaking, the most successful thing I have found is to teach the dog where it is appropriate to go in the first place. I go outside with my puppy frequently and tell her to "potty" when she does I say a very happy "YES!" and reward her with three very yummy treats. (Dr. Ian Dunbar says to reward with three treats, preferably freeze dried liver for potty training). The key here is to teach the dog through positive reinforcement, where the appropriate potty spot is. The other key is to prevent any accidents in the house in the first place. Crate training is awsome for this. Don't punish a dog for an accident. Especially an accident that happened previously and you just found. If you catch the dog in the act, interupt the flow with a loud clap or "eh eh" and quickly whisk the dog off to the appropriate potty spot say "potty" and reward when the dog has done so. This method has worked for me. Dr. Ian Dunbar's book "Before and After Getting Your Puppy" is great.   You can get it from www.dogwise.com
