My Boozer, the bRat terrier, has picked up this habit. He LOVES lizards. He has learned the places where he can find lizards in the yard. Now, when we take him outside, all he wants to do is walk the perimeter of the yard along the fence and look for lizards. He will walk a little ways and get to a spot and then look up and down the fence to see if there are any lizards. If no luck, he moves on to the next spot. He doesn't want to play or anything, just look for lizards.

Is this bad? What should I do?

P.S. He doesn't kill the lizards, he just plays with them.

Bailey is that way about moles. He and Buster have dug our 2 acres of yard up ... I don't know which is worse-the moles or the holes in the yard. But they have gotten several moles and now they are both obsessed with walking all over the yard with their noses to the ground sniffing the moles out I suppose.

So in answer to your question... I have no answer. If you find one, let me know! haha

When I put Fred and Alice out sometimes they walk the perimeter and sniff , sometimes they just lay in the sun, other times they run around. I say it's their free time let them do what they enjoy!!

Have you gone out to play with him? Will he play instead of lizard hunting LOL.

Maybe play with him then let him do his thing.

The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too

Maybe he's just acting out his prey instinct...and there's nothing else around to "hunt" other than the lizards. Mine dig for gophers during the day, and at night they need to go catch as many moths as they possibly can. As long as it keeps them busy (and out of trouble), I have no problem with letting them have fun.

Well, we have two lizzard chasers here.....now in AZ we have lots of little lizzards.....our girls are quick....but Meeester Lizzzzardddd is quicker.....so they play the chase game. But our lizzards are not poisonous....so that would be my only concern if you live in an area where you have lizzards that might cause harm. Otherwise I'd say you got yourself a little "hunter"-----rats & lizzards!
