Welcome to the forum! Be sure to read the pinned topics at the top of the forum on crate training and house training. I don't believe I would be giving these puppies free run of the house until they are potty trained. Do you have a kitchen with durable flooring you can close off with a child barrier? That way you won't be letting them ruin your carpet and cleanup will be quick & easy. Potty training can take a couple of months. |

im sorry i dont have much advice on this specific subject, but what buttonbutt said is very effective, but i just read this and had to say that i always watch animal planet, 'its me or the dog' is one of my favorite things to watch haha, i do have to say that cesear, the dog whisperer guy, is someone my moms friends swears by, she had three labs and they are as close to PERFECTLY trained as any dog can be. i am getting a new ratties soon and i plan on getting the dvds so i suggest watchign some of his stuff if you like that show. good luck ~Erin |

Well my girls are older now and are potty trained. Princess Lilybelle is 7 months old. When she gets upset with me she will piddle for me, where I can see it. Sooo we deal with it. Ratties are very smart and will catch on soon.

Crate training, confine them until they can hold it...read the pinned posts as Peggy suggested.
You are quite brave to take on housetraining 2 pups at once! You'll have your hands full for a while but hang in there. Your pups are absolutely adorable! |

Can a moderator split this off for me? I need your suggestions guys. Last monday and tuesday my boyfriend and I went out of town and a friend watched the dogs for us. They reported that everyone had been great and had no issues. The only strange this is that Clyde had thrown up once just shortly before I have arrived to get them. That night after feeding them their normal dinner Clyde started having the runs. The next two days I fed him strictly Rice and Pumkin. This seemed to help a bit as he wasnt having to go to the bathroom as often but his stools where still soft. Last night I began to notice a bit of red in the stools and they where kind of oily. This morning I found several more of these around the house as he had snuck out of the bedroom and done them at night. This morning my boyfriend called me to report that he has had about 10 more and that they are more red, slightly yellow and again look very oily. Have any of you had experiance with this? We are trying to get him into a vet asap but I am very worried. He has been his usual happy active self and his appetite has not changed. I am pretty good and understanding what to give a dog once I know what they are sick with..but not good with the diagnosing part. Needless to say I am very worried Ironically my boyfriend has been very sick to his stomach all week long too. I might have to take the dog and the boyfriend to the emergency room today. |

Brittany, I think you should take your pup to the vet. Sounds like it might be a virus like several have been dealing with recently (which would require meds). I'd let your vet evaluate because so much diarrhea alone can dehydrate and the blood sounds even more serious to me. |

| We took your advise buttonbutt and we put them in the kitchen and they are doing better.... Bleu is getting the hang of using the pads and Penni is using the pad and sometimes she gets close and then still misses, cause she cant get her little backend on the pad. everytime they use the pad I give them a treat so they know that it is good... Bleu loves the treats and the praise he gets.. Penni just loves the praise we give her.... she has alot of energy... Using our kitchen is working great!!!! Thanks Buttonbutt!!!!! |

Hope it continues to work for you. Remember, they are babies and still have very poor eye/muscle coordination. So when they put their front end on the pad, they have no earthly idea the backk end is off. Remember, walk them outside frequently! I start out hourly at 6-8 weeks, then every two, then every three and so on. The name of the game is "beat them to the urge" to go inside! Has really worked with all my many dogs over the years. Keep us posted on how it's going. |
