for bringing a new dog into the house and it is working great! Establishing leadership BEFORE you come home (by taking long walk) - great idea! I've never done it that way before.

I took both dogs for a long walk last night and then brought her home. She was so PROUD of herself on the walk, I don't think she really has taken a structured walk on the leash before. We figured out ahead of time what is okay and what isn't - furniture okay, bed isn't, jumping up not ok, chasing cats not ok LOL, and she has responded really well to me defining what she can and can't do. I've also limited her to the main living areas for a few days before letting her see the whole house.

We went for another long walk this morning and started working on sitting at the curbs, etc. She's just so sweet and smart! Moose (lab) has totally accepted her (walking them together helped this). It feels like we've had her alot longer than 1 day!

I feel like we have a great fit and made a really great choice in the breed, and specifically her...

Thank you ratbones!!

Christine

It really does help to walk them first. When I picked up Danica, my first foster, I took my alpha female along. Stopped at a rest stop on the drive home and took both dogs for a walk together, before we got home and it worked great.
