SO I have not gotten a crate yet for molly, and  aside from that, training takes time, and I do not want to start her training by putting her in a crate for 7 hours. I know it is going to be a slow learning process. In hope of containg her while I am at work, I put her in my room with food and water.  I had gated her in the hallway which is tiled but my little smartie figured a way over the gate So I come home yesterday and open my door to find that she has torn up the carpet to chew the padding underneath, about a 4th of my carpet in my room was pulled up. How does a dog so small create a mess so big! lol I also had plased some clothing I did not want chewed on my bed thining she could not get up there. She did, my jeans had holes in them and there was quite a mess on everything  Obviosly this was my fault not hers so I did not scold her but I certainly learned my lesson about leaving her in my room. As for the clothes, this is a pretty big problem, I have 2 children(both boys), and my husband so we create quite a bit of laundry, she love to chew anything cloth and I am not sure how to handle or train her not to chew on certain thing. any training tips on how to get doggies NOT to chew things?

Please see the crate training thread under the training forum. It isn't cruel to crate a dog for 7 hours. I think you said the vet thinks she is over a year old? She should be fine for that length of time in the crate.

As for the laundry problem, I would recommend getting some plastic laundry hampers with lids and training the kids and hubby to put all their dirty clothes and towels in them. Anything left on the floor or the bed is fair game.

I agree with Pam. I'd buy the crate ASAP. You can at least start getting her used to it slowly. Are you off on the weekends? I'd recommend that you crate her for a little bit while you're home - when you do that, you can give her a Kong that is filled with some treats and/or peanut butter or a bully stick. This will help her associate it with being a good place. You can also use the Kong for when you put her in their and leave, but I wouldn't do that with a bully stick or any other "chewy" just in case of choking (which would be rare with a bully stick, but it's better safe than sorry).

I'd recommend a soft bed or blanket, but again try with you there first to make sure she doesn't try and eat or chew it! Then you can start by leaving her when you run to the store or out for just an hour or so.

I also have a guinea pig sized water bottle attached to Daisy's crate in case she wants a sip of water when we're gone during the day, but other than that I wouldn't leave food or a bowl of water, it just makes a mess.

The hamper with lid is a great idea too, preferably in the bathroom(s) with the door shut
