If your pup hasn't lost all of his baby teeth, he may be teething...which is the time his teeth are advancing to large canine teeth. What you can do is firmly say NO. make sure he pays attention to you, while telling her NO BITE. (maybe point your finger) then, have a toy handy... give her a treat (just an itsy bitsy bite of something)... and praise him. Then give him the toy to focus his attention on something else. It seems kind of funny because he's a dog, but they really do understand. just be consistant with it. A good toy to occupy him with is a kong filled with peanut butter. I guarantee you that will occupy him better than your finger will !

I am having the same problem with Brutus.. when he gets in his hyper/playful mode he thinks he can bite your clothes, fingers and the surprise attack OUCH big toe!!  I know they are his "playful" bites, but holy cow do they hurt.  When it's just normal play he rarely does it, only when he starts spazing to release energy does it happen, which of course is a couple of times a day.  For the most part I've been using the firm "NO" or "NO BITE" as was suggested, he just turned 3 months old... will it end soon?

The firm "NO" any time teeth touch human skin is a must.  Redirect with a toy or PB-stuffed kong.  If all else fails, my vet recommended squirting with water pistols (try to do it clandestinely if possible).  I got a 6-pack of them at WalMart for about $1.50.   The water pistols were the MOST effective at curbing puppy biting/nipping in Button.  To this day, I have them in all my end-table drawers, filled & at the ready for curbing ANY unwanted behaviors, even barking inside or outside.  If she even SEES them she withdraws from/stops  whatever she is doing.

Amos does this also and he is 6 months. i have been firm and saying NO. he seems to understand. He is also for some reason terrified of a newspaper. We have never whipped him but if you just pick it up he is immediately paying attention. So i keep it there and if he does not listen i just pick it up and he becomes a good puppy again.
i hope that dosent sound mean as i would never whip him with it.
