Good Morning!

Day Two of having a multi dog household.  Things seem to be going okay.  Buyt like any kid, Riley doesn't want Munchie to touch anything that belongs to him.  It's actually quite cute.  Riley has piled all his chewies blankies and ball balls into one area and won't let Munchie touch them!  I know it has been less than two days, but at some point will they play together with toys?  Strangely enough, they can share a food bowl with no problems.  Such weird little buddies...Anyway  I'll looking forward to getting Munchie fixed.  I think Riley and I would both like it much better if Munchie quit jumping him!  :0)  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Kim

i too am new to 2 ratties... my 1st was 1 month ago... and saturday we got #2...
#1 bryson is kind of possessive but in a playful manor... they struggle for control over the toys...
your puppy may be just "starting a game"... does he get really nasty about it?

1 thing we did was to eliminate toys he has destroyed by 50% and replaced them with new toys
the same day we brought her in so the toys are THEIR toys... we also got toys for multi-dogs
like the multi-leg dolls and tug ropes... they enjoy chasing and pulling each other.

As a two dog home for all of 4 days now...... I find that my two share the toys just fine. It is the chew sticks and bones that Chrissy wants to hog. She will drop the one she has in her mouth to go take his away from him and of course he wants it back. There will be 5 or 6 different ones laying around and they both want the same one. So far no BIG fights, just playful fussing.

I find Alice wants everything Fred has . They will both by laying around just fine and Fred will go to pick up a toy or bone and Alice IMMEDIATELY has to go take it from him.  I think he has learned to use the first item as a decoy so when she comes and takes it he goes for what he really wants. He will sometimes lay on one bone while chewing another so she can't get to them either, but she does.   When she has something he could pretty much care less, it seems one sided in our house.

The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too

When we first got our rescue, Zipper (found stray at 5 mos.) Button's toys were a "bone of contention". Zipper quite aggressively took them away from Button the first week with us. Button didn't mind and was quite willing to share her toys with the new puppy, but the puppy was not so nice about letting Button ever play with them. So we decided to just take up all the toys for a couple of weeks. That way Zipper and Button could establish other aspects of their pack relationship first and just get to know one another better. As we felt Zipper was more comfortable with Button, us and her new home, we slowly began to introduce toys one at a time again. That worked very nicely for us. If a particularly toy triggered Zipper being overly guarding of it, we removed that toy from them again.

Fred sounds so smart Alice! Our Roxy will do something similar - if someone has a toy/chewie that she wants she goes to the door and barks like holy heck as if someone or something is on the porch. Invariably the boys all rush over to see what's up and she trots over and takes the item she wanted. The smarter amongst the boys will keep the item with them as they investigate....
