I have noticed that Toa is really really afraid of cars.  If one goes by juring his potty time he cowers away.  If I try to start my car when theyre on their moring potty break, he PULLS as hard as he can away from my car even before it is running?!?  He will PULL the leash away from ANY car moving, running or not.  He is ok IN the car and if I am holding him NEAR a car, but if not, he seems to be so afraid.  Any way to help him through this fear?

Maybe I will rub BBQ sauce on my car and let him lick it off!  LOL  that will probably cure it!  kidding of course.....any serious  ( or funny) suggestions would be greatly appreciated....poor little guy!

Smokey loves to go riding in the truck. I have an auto starter and if he is in the yard anywhere near the truck and I start it up, he cowers and shakes a bit and gets nervous. As soon as I go to the door of the truck, he gets all excited and jumps right in.  In your situation, I would suggest you hold Toa and just walk around your car while it is running, talking to her and petting her. Maybe this may help overcome that kind of fear.

Walk him up to your car on leash and he gets closer give him treats? Start with car off and progress to running car.

Mary, I saw an episode of the Dog Whisperer about a dog that was afraid of an air compressor. He and the owner stood in the garage and when the air compressor got turned on and the dog started to freak he corrected him and made him sit. I guess to show him there was nothing to be afraid of. He said not to baby them or feel sorry...I'm not a very good example but if all else fails...try treats!!!!! Or the BBQ sauce LOL
