My Shadow is 5 months old.  My daughter is 12.  I keep Shadow in his crate during the day and when my daughter gets home from school she takes him for a walk.  The problem is after school he does his business for her.... but won't do anything else.  I think this is because he has been in his crate for 6 hours and then he gets to come out, so naturally he is going to do his business.  However, on weekend he won't do anything for her when she walks him.  With me it is different... he will do his business, both parts every time.  I praise him and all.  During out walks I am also teaching him to "come" which he is very good at.  I can keep him on a lease when he is with me inside and he is very good... But my daughter... he wants to play and sleep in her arms like a baby.  I have found several pee stains in the carpet in one corner of my home and I didn't see him do it when he was with me... so how can I get him to only pee outside and not inside... We are still potty training him since I've only had him for about 6 weeks now..I think I confused him because I tried the paper training thing and it didn't work at all... A couple weeks ago I started taking him outside and rewarding him with treats and it is working.  But it looks like it will be me doing the training because he only obeys me..

Is she diligent in taking him out when you aren't home? It sounds as if it's not that he isn't "obeying" her, but that she is not keeping a good enough eye on him as you would. She's only 12 and a lot to ask. He at this point is not 100 percent house trained and if you give him room, he will still pee in the house when you aren't looking. Maybe she can take him out when she gets home, walk him, play with him, but re-crate him when she is not going to be watching him ALL the time? Again, I don't think it is her vs. you, just that you probably keep a better eye on him and make sure he has enough chances to go out.

I happen to agree. I don't blame her... it is just that I need her help on the weekends with him since it is both of us at home with him. I want Shadow to work with both of us. I guess, until he is fully trained, I have to do this job alone. Now any ideas on how to clean the pee smell so he don't keep going back?

I use natures miracle, but the pet stores all sell odor remover. The key is to use it FIRST before or in place of any other cleaner as they can "set in" the smell. Also make sure it soaks the area then let it air dry. I kept Jack on a long leash inside so I knew where he was at all times until he was potty trained. Has worked wonders after 2-3 weeks I can trust him now!! He is almost 6 months. Good Luck!

I agree with Sarah, I've even had that problem with my husband not watching the girls closely enough when they were puppies. Also, the paper training may have confused (I did the puppy pad thing with Mayfly and it took forever to get her to potty outside). The other thing is if he was not housetrained when you got him and it's only been 6 weeks then give it time. Many dogs still have the occasional accident at 5 months old....just give it time and consistency!

Thanks, you guys are awesome. I will keep you updated on how its going. I went to Petsmark and am going to sign up for training. I'm looking forward to this a lot. He is so smart and already sits when I tell him to, but then immeciately gets up and starts licking my right hand seeking out his treat... ha, ha, ha. I have started not giving it to him all the time. Now, I'll see if that works.

Good for you for putting your dog in a training program! Don't get discouraged about your furbaby not listening to more than one person. It's very customary for a puppy to bond with one person and look to one individual as the alpha in the "pack" he/she is trying to become a part of. My dog is pretty well trained (not perfect... but still well behaved...) and my niece told me the other day that "Bailey doesn't listen to anyone but you". Well... that's very true to some extent. I'm the one who trained him. I feed him. I spend the time with him. So naturally he's going to respond to me more than someone else.
