So I have had Lu Lu for 5 months now, i love her, she is crazy and gets along with my Chiuaua, Potter, really well.  I have an issue though. Chewing,  I have chew toys for her and she plays with them but when we are sleeping she has taken to eating the blanket that I am sleeping under. I have had to sew up every corner and at least two parts of on each side.  Any suggestions on stopping her shewing. She also loves to chew on wooden furniture.  I have tried the bitter spray stuff, she just looks at me and then licks the stuff ( i think she really like it)  I considered trying hot sauce but i can't really put that on a white comfroter.  any ideas on curbing her chewing.  If all else fails I may have to just crate her at night.  I hate doing that cause Potter is very well behaved and I don't want to crate him, I have had him for 4 years and he has always slept with me.  Oh one last question, has anyone every done obiedence training classes? how do you frrl about them and did it help with you rattie's training?

thanks so much

sarah

i give tauney raw hides and bully sticks to chew on and she has tones of toys, try a nila bone or a kong! i never had tauney in obdience classes, you might want to crate her at night. when she starts chewing tell her AAAACCCKKK, i do that with tauney and she stops what ever she is doing. jmo though

on the other side what color is your chi? i have a chi he weights 4lbs and is fawn color he is 5 yrs old

Potter, my chi is a long hair, he is black with brown and white on his face,  he is my cute little man.

well last night she brought it to a new level, she has now started chewing my pillow topper on the bed,  i woke up because she was eating the blanket on me again,  i have the kong toys and i have tried putting her own blanket on the bed but she loves to pull the stuffing out of mine.  I have gotten her tostop pulling the stuffing out of her own toys but i think i may just have to crate her, i hate doing it but i am not getting a full nights rest and i am running out of thread to fix my blanket,  it used to be really nice and now it is the sadest looking blanket, oh well, if you guys have any other suggestions, i welcome them all

thanks sarah

I would crate her at night, put a KONG in with her filled with peanutbutter to keep her busy. She is probably teething OR not getting enough excersise..that is one key point to Ratties (all dogs/puppies actually)...IF they do not get to burn off their excess energy they will "find" things to do you may not always like. Also, rotate her toys so she wont get board with the same ones all the time & when you bring the ones out you had put up she willl "think" she is getting a new toy .

As far as obedience training...GREAT idea! just make sure you find a qualified trainer in your area..do your research before signing up for the class...go watch a class or two, talk to the trainer, etc. I have been training Spanky myself as I have done all my dogs in the past but a class is great for socialization. Ask your vet if they can refer you to a trainer, Petsmart also has classes BUT make sure you watch HOW the trainer trains & make sure what ever trainer you are "inspecting" is familure with small breeds..some are good only with the larger breeds..do your homework!!

When you own a Rattie....you KNOW you are in your right mind

THE MEANING OF RESCUE

Now that I'm home, bathed, settled and fed,
All nicely tucked in my warm new bed.
I'd like to open my baggage
Lest I forget,
There is so much to carry -
So much to regret.
Hmm... Yes there it is, right on the top
Let's unpack Loneliness, Heartache and Loss,
And there by my leash hides Fear and Shame.
As I look on these things I tried so hard to leave -
I still have to unpack my baggage called Pain.
I loved them, the others, the ones who left me,
But I wasn't good enough - for they didn't want me.
Will you add to my baggage?
Will you help me unpack?
Or will you just look at my things -
And take me right back?
Do you have the time to help me unpack?
To put away my baggage,
To never repack?
I pray that you do - I'm so tired you see,
But I do come with baggage -
Will you still want me?
