I GOT KENYA FROM A LADY WHO WAS GOING TO HAVE HER PUT TO SLEEP. SHE HAD HER FOR 3 MONTHS AND COULDN'T HANDLE HER ANY MORE. SHE FOUND HER OUTSIDE HER HOUSE AND TRIED TO FIND HER HOME BUT NEVER DID.

KENYA IS AFRAID TO GO OUTSIDE. SHE STAYS AT THE BACK DOOR AND CRYS & WHINES. SHE WAS DOING GOOD GOING POTTY OUTSIDE, NOW SHES PEEING IN THE HOUSE. WHEN I SAY OUTSIDE SHE RUNS UNDER THE KITCHEN TABLE AND HIDES. WE WENT OUTSIDE FOR 2 HOURS, CAME INSIDE AND SHE PEED IN THE FLOOR. I CAN'T GET HER TO PLAY OUTSIDE. WE HAVE 3 OTHER RATTIES AND SHE WONT PLAY WITH THEM OUTSIDE EITHER. SHE DOES PLAY INSIDE. SHES AROUND 1-2 YEARS THE VET SAID. ANY IDEAS WOULD BE HELPFUL.

Have you tried making outside "fun"? Lots of special treats maybe that she wouldn't otherwise get? There must be something about the outside that frightens her. I think I would start off slow. Just go out for potty, stay with her on a lead and lots of praise and treats when she goes....then back in. She will soon learn to get her business done and she can go back in. Once she is comfortable with that and is going potty outside, then I would move on to getting her more comfortable with playing outside, but not until she is at least okay pottying.

Here's my advice:

1. Get a crate and a light weight leash. Use them to help housetrain her completely. Act as if this is her first day with you and that she is not housetrained at all. Do not free feed (how is she doing with going #2?) There are a lot of helpful tips and advice in the training forum on housetraining and crate training. They are pinned at the top of the lists of threads there. Use the leash in the house to keep her near you and enable you to get her to come to you when you want her. Use the crate at all times when you cannot keep an eye on her - a CLOSE EYE.

2. As far as the outside issue. I wouldn't worry about it over much right now. Use another word when you want her to go out and potty - "Potty time" or something similar. When you believe she needs to go, take her out on a leash to a spot you would like her to use. Do NOT roam around too much or just let her run loose and wait for her to go. For now, you want to associate outside with pottying alone. After she has a full and complete grasp that this is what the outdoors is for, then you can revisit the attempts at letting her out "free" with the other dogs to attempt to play.

3. I would, however, take her on walks, perhaps by herself or with one of your other dogs - whoever is the calmest and best leash-walker. This isn't necessarily to be used for potty time, but rather as a way to help her begin to assimilate better into the pack. Walk her briskly and keep her focused on moving forward, not sniffing and roaming. This helps exercise her mind as well as her body.
