We just got a new puppy toady, Lola Maxine, but all is not well at home. Dudley, our current guy for the past two and half years, is not adjusting to change at all. I know we need to start slow and give him time, but I know Dudley! I can see it all over his face, he wants Lola out! He has made no attempt to greet her at all (no butt sniffing from him but Lola seems to like him )

As a side note we bought her from a lady and she is infested with fleas!  we have give her a good bath and will take her to the vet on Monday, but I am worried we haven't gotten them all. Any suggestions?

try going to wal mart and getting one of those flea combs you can buy they are like the ones that are for lice! i hate fleas they get every where. do you have a pet store near you, that you can buy a flea dip? how old is she? a quick fix is use plain original dawn dishwashing soap put it on her straight and wait a few minutes and then lather her up the soap will kill the fleas! poor girl. if she has been on the carpet you are going to have to do some good cleaning and running the vaccumm! they are hard to get rid of!

Try a drop of alcohol on each (just put a drop on your finger tip and touch the little vermin), it's knock them out and then drown them in alcohol...one at a time. I once inherited a couch, flea-ridden, with no animals in the house, the only source of food for the fleas was the people.

As for Dudley getting along, his is doing anything else, like barking or grousing at Lola? If he's not being aggressive then maybe just a little time to get used to her. Make sure his territory is protected, the puppy will, of course, get into everything, including Dudley's food bowl, and that probably will T Dudley off.

I agree, if Dudley isn't doing anything agressive to her then he just needs time to adjust. They'll work it out, be patient.

Welcome to the site! Can't wait to see pics of Lola. Like MaryBeth said, patience is in order whenever you bring a new pup around an existing dog or cat. Show affection toward both dogs and give the older dog some private attention, both inside and out. Private games. The "prior" animals really perceive this as getting something special. Be sure to stop by the training forum and read the Crate Training post at the top and some of the potty training topics posted on the last few pages. Lots of good info there. Good luck with your adventure. You're gonna love your pup! And in time, Dudley will too.  Until you are sure they are getting along well and Dudley is not aggressive, do not leave them alone together, as the puppy would be the loser in any tangles, especially if Dudley is a larger dog.
