I'm going nuts with donne man out here! He won't stop pushing me or nipping at my hands or legs to get my attention. I've tried ignoring but it's get old after 20 mins straight. and to keep my tempter i put him in a time out. it's been becoming such a routine that he's doing it to visitors and items such as the door when he needs to go out even though he's been trianed to ring a bell on the floor. i've tried the deep growling voice and firm no... i've tried the scruff hold.....i've even tried yelping! with all of them he thinks i'm playing and tries to be more stealthy in his attack that it's hard to see when it's coming. His new thing as of a few days ago was kicking out your knees from behind. Honesly my dear hubby, and i can be patient but its really bad when the visitors come and they get so sick of him. I love him and i know he can be great for company if we could just get past this. I don't know if anyone has any ideas for another angle at correction but any thing is welcome. |

He is 7 mo. now and he has his random fits or running like puppies do twice a day, which he doesn't cause too much havoc, and aside from that he gets two one hour walks/runs. plus running around outside after he goes potty. atleast for about 5-10 min a piece. We had to bump up his excercise to this just to get him to sleep the seven hours through the night. and at that he still beats the alarm some times. at first i thought he would wake up early to go potty but nope. just tickles a tiny bit....maybe poop, otherwise he waits another two hours before he really needs to potty. he just has so much energy..... |

Try using a squirt gun when he does the nipping. It's a great correcting tool. I have a few placed over the house. Now, when I want the babies to behave, all I have to do is show it to them!
Try fetch a few times also to get him to wear down!

| Hmmm....that should be plenty enough exercise to deplete some of that energy! Do you walk/run with him in a "heel" position? |

Curiouser and curiouser - LOL...sorry, I know you need help! I read your response to the other post and he knows a LOT of commands: sit, stay, come, off, down, housebroken and lets you know he needs out, etc.... so obviously he's trained and smart. And you must be doing a lot of things right to get him to this point. So you CAN do this, too!! Our training mod, Nora, should be here and see this post and she'll have lots of ideas. Meanwhile, I'm going to look for some other replies she may have made to others in a similar situation and link them here for you. |

| Oh, yeah he's def smart. TOO SMART. I think i underestamated this breed...lol. i love it though. they really are brilliant. but like i said i'm runing out cuz he learns them sooo fast then he gets sick of it and wants to do something else...like push me... ugh! i know we'll make it but if only i had some direction to head in. maybe a few leads to take. thanks for takeing the time to look for those leads. i really appreciate it! |

I used the water pistols Sue remmended above. My vet was the one that suggested them to me. It did wonders for Button's persistence at demanding attention like you described in your original post above. Now she stops any bad behavior the minute she sees me open the end table drawer and hears the work PISTOL or even sees the thing. It doesn't make athem psychos, just stops the behavior. Wal-Mart used to have a 6-pack of 'em in toys for around $1.50. Best investment you'll ever make. |
