Can someone please tell me something they were able to do to stop their Rat Terrier from chewing up everything.  Yes, I know that if he chews on something it's my fault because it was within his reach but my boyfriend is beyond supportive after Trebek chewed up some of his money.  I know, I know, it shouldn't have been laying around...I get you but what can I do for the dog and keep the boy

Just when you think your Rattie has run out of energy, it will get back up and do it all again.

Well my female Lacey was a terrible chewer.  EVERYTHING!!!  I know how you feel, because it is so frustrating.  I got her raw hides and would tell her NO when she chewed something bad then gave her the raw hide bone.  It took her till she was about 1-1/2 yrs old to stop doing it.  We could never trust her alone in a room.  She will be 2 in Feb and she doesn't chew up stuff anymore.  I think she just out grew it I guess.  Jack my 8 month old has never been a problem.  When we told him no the first few times he just got it and only goes to his toys and bones.  Good luck.  I know I'm not much help, but I do understand your frustration!!!!!!!

My Mayfly chewed up our coffee table as a puppy. But even now they will tear up receipts or any small pieces of paper. And I have no doubt they'd tear up money. You can't leave it laying around...period. Crate them if you're leaving the house and watch them like a hawk when you're there but since you can't watch them every second you'll have to not let them near things they're chewing. You can maybe baby gate them into one room....but basically everyone needs to learn to not leave things laying around.

Fuji would chew shoes, pillows, cables, just about anything within his reach. We gave him nylabones and plenty of supervision. In order to be able to catch him, we had the living room gated off and would not leave him without supervision. That way we could catch him and redirect him as necessary. If we have to leave him alone, he goes in his crate. He is almost a year old now and has shown significant improvement. However, we still keep a close eye on him. He is not gated into the room all day now. We allow him more freedom around the house, but we still do not leave him unsupervised. I was told by another rattie owner that his dog was not left without supervision until he was about 1 1/2 years old.

Buster has chewed everthing but funiture.. He chewed our christmas tree lights cord into, and our phone line coard. He has shreaded countless papers and loves to dig in our bathroom waste basket which just mainly consists of Q tips. I would just be sure your rattie has plenty of other things to keep his attention rather then the funiture.. but as far as any type of paper and expecailly money... KEEP IT OUT OF REACH!!! from what I hear all ratties do that and I don't know if they ever grow out of that..

Yeah, I think the crate is going to be the answer because he is also having quite a time with housetraining.  I feel awful everything Trebek makes a mistake and my boyfriend gets that look on his face.   I do have to say I'm "Rat Certified" now after having quite a problem maker with the first one while my boyfriend doesn't understand there are dogs and then there are Rat Terriers.  I think what has happened is Trebek was kept in a crate most of the time and now he's got the run of the house and doesn't know how to handle it.  When I first got him he was scared to be pet and didn't seem as though he got much attention.  He just turned 2 so he is still a puppy kinda.  I did go through a chewing phase with my first one, Bella Rosa, but her chew toy of choice was lip gloss, lipstick, etc. but she somehow knew how to get into my purse and choose the newest, most expensive one.

Thanks for the responses and I welcome anymore.
