Daisy is 8 wks now and still whines, whines, whines.  I took her and Mom for a ride at lunch today and you would have thought we were killing her!! She whines for a good 20-30 minutes when she gets in the car. As far as I know she's only ridden a few times and never a bad experience. Mom wants to turn around and go back home because she's so loud. Any ideas?

She also whines in the house a lot. It's hard for me to tell when it's a "I've got to go" whine or just a "help me get down" whine and sometimes its just a whine to be whining, I think. I don't want a perfect puppy (well, really I do) but I am realistic with my expectations so please excuse any questions that seem mundane. It's just that this is my first puppy in quite some time and really never had one so little before either. My previous was a weimaraner and I got her at 3 months.

Well, I hate to tell you this, but Vino has whined every day of his two year old life in the car. I have no idea why, but he will do it for the entire car ride (if its relatively short), really long rides he will finally settle down. We have been shhhing him consistently, and that seems to have been helping a bit, but he still quietly whines. My advice would be to stop the behavior with whatever noise that you use to stop her from doing other things. I would probably say that it is an attention seeking behavior if nothing seems to be wrong with her. I bet f you make it clear to her that this behavior is unacceptable she will finally stop. I could be totally wrong though...

Copper is a whiner, and she's 2 and a half. It was excrutiating when she was a puppy, because she would whine constantly. She needed to go out, she'd whine. She was hungry, bored, needed something, she'd whine. We had to work through it, reward some whining (like to go outside) but ignoring other whining (she would whine whenever 100% of the attention was not on her...made eating dinner tough) but it DOES get better. Now she whines when she is trying to communicate something, like she needs to go out, her toy is out of her reach, lift the covers so she can get underneath, etc. At least now it's not CONSTANT. The nice thing is that she's grown up to be not much of a barker, but more of a whiner, which means she's a little more subtle and polite-seeming about things. She really uses whining to communicate! Congrats on your new puppy!!!!

My Punkin ( white one in the aviatar) is my whiner.. she was adopted last May from Ratbones...
she dosen't whine as bad as she first did, but still does a little..and sometimes I just have no clue why.. but she is my little drama queen too... she will cry out with this very loud squeal for no reason... just be laying in bed with me and let out this blood curdling sqeal... of course I feel her all over to make sure there are no sore spots or injuries... my little drama queen...

Daisy didn't and doesn't wine so much...she'll bark occasionally and she shoves me LOL! How do you react to her whining? Just curious because you be unconsciously encouraging the behavior by reacting to it. Kind of like with a child throwing a tantrum.

Give Daisy something yummy to chew on while in the car... a kong filled with peanut butter maybe? Find something to occupy her. Are you crate training her? If she's going to whine anyway... let her do it in a crate (which will eventually become her *safe haven*). Put her in the crate for short periods with something to chew on.
