Hey, I didn't know you were a dog trainer!  That's awesome.

I didn't know teaching "sit" was the easiest thing to teach - explains why I could teach mine fairly quickly!

Teaching "sit" is the easiest command to teach...and it's usually the first command people train their dogs to respond to. "Down" is often the most difficult as it is a submissive behavior and most dogs resist it. I always concentrate and spend huge amounts of time on the "come" command first though....

I just graduated this year, I don't really do it for money or anything but I do go out to our Russell Rescue and work with them to make them more adoptable. (If there were Ratbones by me I would do it for them too!)  I personally found with the Clicker they all pick up sit very quickly. I love them all!!

I had the hardest time teaching Fred "down" I finally bridged my legs and would lure him through underneath them, when he was right under in his so called down I clicked, eventaully he got it. Alice picked it up pretty quick just from watching him!!

The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too

Alice -- that's a SUPER way to teach the down command if you have a dog who is resistant! God bless you for doing what you do with the Russell Rescue group... a dog who has basic obedience is much more adoptable and there are so few who will donate their time for this purpose!

Very cool.  I know that helps them find homes easier!

It's so fun to watch them all learn.  Just to understand what dogs go through learning my boyfriend and I played this gave where I thought of an action (it was spinning in a circle while touching your nose) and my boyfriend had to execute this command without knowing what it was. When he would do something "right" like life his arm or hand toward his face I would click, then when he finally got his finget to his nose he still had to figure out he needed to spin. He did one back and I tell ya, It's hard to know what someone wants based on clicks. I give these dogs so much credit on how they learn!!  Alice learned so fast from watching Fred, it was much easier with her. Now if someone could tell me how to stop the jumping...............................nothing has worked there.
