Hi everyone... I don't know what is going on... Shadow is peeing in the house again. I don't know what the deal is. HOW and WHERE he is doing it is making me angry. He is going on dirty clothes. I have a tall laundry basket... he gets up on his hind legs and pulls clothes out to the floor and pees on them... In my bathroom, I have a small laundry backet... he jumps inside it and pees on the clothes... and forget when I am doing laundry and have clothes on the floor in their separate piles... there he goes again... and I'm watching him. He doesn't always squat like he used to... he just barely squats sometimes when he does this. So I am having to crate him and only let him out to go potty. He is not happy about this cause he is whinning and crying to get out. I'm trying to ignore him but it is hard... so last night, I got up about 1:00 am and let him in bed with me. He wanted to roam, but I wouldn't let him... so we are back to the basics and I don't know what else to do. |

I'm sorry. I hope that he just needs some reinforcement and he'll be back to pottying outside; however, I'd also like to point out that you may want to have him checked for a urinary tract infection by your vet. Sudden, unexplained pottying in the house - and on "soft" surfaces, is often a sign of UTI. Hopefully, it's not - or hopefully, depending on how you look at it But I'd definitely rule that out before assuming he's forgotten his house manners. |

| Id be alarmed about a UTI too, and the whining may very well be it hurts mommy... have you ever had one? Hurts like crazy and a frequency to urinate far more often. Too bad you cant convince a dog to drink cranberry juice... good luck with it! I feel sorry for you Shadow, feel better buddy! |

| Yup, could be a UTI definately. Also, how old is he now? Is he neutered yet? Maybe it could be him marking if it's not a UTI? Wish I new how to help. I would definately call asn talk with the vet about a urine sample. |

| I didn't think of a UTI... I will have to call the vet. I haven't had him neutered yet because everytime I make an appointment (4 times now), I can't take off due to a client coming in the office. They don't give me any notice at all here at work and I am stuck on having to be here early to do stuff. I hate this - so no he hasn't been neutered and he will be a year next month. I've also noticed that when I take him outside to go potty, he pees a little bit everywhere. I think this is marking, yes. Is it too late to get him neutered since he has started this? Thanks |

| It's never too late to neuter! My rescue dog, Skipper, was intact for the first 2-3 years of his life and then neutered. He marks a lot outside but not in the house. |

Same here, MB--Bo was 2 when we got him, and we had him neutered within a week or so of bringing him home. He "marks" every blade of grass or anything that is vertical OUTSIDE, but he doesn't pee on anything inside.
Shadow's Mom, I'd get a vet's opinion on the UTI right away. |

He really should have already been neutered if he's almost a year old so that the marking habit doesn't become engrained as a behavior. Male dogs by the time they are a year old often have developed the habit of marking everything as their own. However... like the others.. I would suspect a urinary tract infection and would rule that out first. Until he has been neutered, I believe I would invest in a belly band for him. |

Bob was neutered at 5 months, but he still marks everything outside. Especially in my mom's backyard where her male dog pees. I hope Shadow feels better soon. |

Here's a website for the belly bands. They are bands for male dogs which prevent the urine from getting on your floors, or furniture or anything else the dog might decide to urinate on. http://www.pekeatzurescue.com/bellybands.htm How is Shadow doing, by the way? |
