Hello everyone, I'm just watching Oprah and it's all about dogs and dog training. They had the tallest dog on, and he says "I love you..." it was too cute. Coming up next is the smallest dog! There was a trainer on in the beginning and I was very interested to see what she had to say because Rylee and I just started going to classes, we have 5 more weeks. Well her philosophy was almost the same as the place we are going, it was so cool! Rylee is doing really well, we just did some of our "homework." "Down" is not working too well yet, but everything else is good. I am working so hard on the jumping on me thing, it is decreasing a lot. I was just wondering if anyone saw Oprah today, very good!

Nope, not me either. I wanted to say that we haven't taken Illyria to classes. Do they tell you to teach Down when the dog is on something? We taught Illyria Off instead Down. |

Oh, no, down as in lie down, below sit. His head goes down with the treat, but his butt comes back up, so to me it's not a big deal because he has good manners and will go down when he's being patient while I eat or make dinner. I can tell him down and he will, but he wouldnt follow the hand signal only. We'll see how it goes next Monday night!

| If you'll stroke him while he's down... and put some GENTLE pressure on his backside, it will help keep him from raising his butt up. The down command asks the dog to go into submissive behavior, and many dogs resist it at first. Good luck! |

We have a DVD recorder.. and hubby records Oprah everyday for me to watch when I get home from work. I can take or leave many of the shows.. but I was so excited to see this dog show (just goes to show you how narrow minded I can be! ) I thought the training tips were great... and I think I'll purchase the book mentioned... can't have too many dog books ya know! |
