yeah, i think the apps are a waste of time though... i think what i like most is the navigation and general look of the site, i guess that doesn't really matter lol i just like it

back on the topic of puppies: lol
what are you planning on doing potty wise? is your apartment ground floor?
i was thinking of maybe litter training mine so she doesn't have to wait for me before she can go... but i was just curious what you were going to do?

haha i totally was typing that last message then looked and here was this message lol...

nextyear i am living in a duplex, its like a townhouse, and its all ground level entry, so i will be taking my pup outside every couple hours i guess. i dont have a problem with it, but when i do i am totally going to do the bell thing, where you ie a bell to the door and teach them to ringit when they have to go out haha that will be awesome lol. with litter box training i think thats really cool, its like a cat where you dont have to tak them out. the olny couple downsides i personally have with it is the fact that it will smell, i know litter boxes do lol. and the main reason is because ive read that if you teach you pup to use the litter box, then it better be what you plan on uses the whole time because its hard to say yes you can potty here and then when you move to a house say so you cant potty inside you potty outside. like if you initially dont havwe the pup go outside when in the future if you do it is confusing to the dog.

when are you planning on getting your pups first vaccinations? are you planning on spaying?

oh well that's good. yeah, i think that litter box is really the only thing i can think of that would work for the situation as it is though. cuz i work from like 6 in the morning until like 2:30 so i won't be able to take her outside while i'm there and my boyfriend's schedual changes a lot so he might or might not be home. any other ideas that you know of? i don't know if i'll be ground floor not. i've seen like other stuff too for people in apartments like doggie divots i think is what it's called, it's like a container for either puppy pads or litter, but has a crate over the top and some sort of astroturf or sometthing that looks like grass so it's easier for them to associate the real grass for potty when they are outside. the only problem i had with that compared to just a regular doggie litter box is that i'd have to clean the astroturf because it'd get icky but i don't think the smell would be that big of a problem as long as i cleaned it every day...

ive heard of the grass like patches and ive heard of the potty pads, i think in your situation i would find it to be a tough decison too. especially when puppies need to go out so often. if it was possible i would try to come home on your lunch time to let her out, and your bouyfriend too if it works with the schedule. and since you work early and get off early afternoon, i would think you could take her out to go potty before you go to work, and on your lunch. have you decided what your food schedule will be fore her, like once or twice a day and what time? are you planning on crate training her? i am sure that if you really wanted to have her go potty outside, that it could work out. or if you feel that it would be easier to do the litter box, grass patch, or potty pads while she was a pup, then thats better than just going all over the house. the potty pads and litter boxes would most likely be easier to clean but for the purpose of her conversite to pottying outside when shes older i would say the grass patch so its easier to adjust. maybe you could set up an ex pen or let her have the bathroom while you guys are gone, so she doesnt get used to pottying in her crate. there are a lot of options im sure if you post a new thread that a lot of people with the experience and have gone through this will be able to help you decide what you wanna do. im just lucky because school is only a few hours a day and if i get a job next year it wont be long hours just part time, and my roommates could always help out.

oh yeah, i forgot: i am planning on spaying and the breeder does the first shots and worming.... you?

yeah, the only problem with taking her out on my lunch is that it's only a half hour and i walk like 10-15 min. each way so i wouldn't have any time to eat and i'd have to rush to get there... i just don't think she'd be able to hold even that long though until she's older...(wish i didn't have to work lol) but maybe if i go with the grass looking one it'd be easier to convert her when she is older... i like the bell idea also! how long can a grown dog wait to potty? (haha i should probably get myself a doggie book soon ;P ) but as a pup i want to crate train her, but not "crate" train her (lol i know that makes no sense) basically i want to set up like a small play pen or put her in a smaller room (like the bathroom maybe) while i'm gone so that she has her basic stuff but doesn't have the whole run in the house and go wee wee everywhere then when i get home it's fun time with me!!! as for feeding i was thinking some in the morning and some at night or afternoon. have you decided on a dog food yet? i was thinking canidae.

haha yeah i am definently planning on spaying her lol, as far as vaccinations, i am not sure yet, the breeder has a preference on waiting because of mothers immunities and i am concerned about somthing so she is going toemail me and were are going to discuss it because i dont know what i wanna do yet.

yeah i understand not having time during lunch. im sure you can find something that wors for both of you, i recommend starting a thread so you can get others opinions about it. yeah the bell thing is cool. i think ive read that a grown dog can wait 1 hour for 1 month of age plus 1. so if the pups 2 months old, then it would be 3 hours. etc. yeah i have a couple doggie books i am going to start reading, then i am going to was the dog whisperers dvds also. and as for the feeding same here, 2 times a day, one in the sm and one in the pm.

the 2 dog foods i was leaning towards was the natural balance duck/potato, and the innova evo. my breeder raw feeds but she suggests the innova evo and since i was looking at that one i was planning on going with that one. ive heard the canidae is a good one. i am definently NOT going to get stuff such as iams or eukibla (sp?) etc. anything you can buy at a safeway or qfc is "puppy junk food" as other on here would say. so a little bit more money for dog is better becuase it may be a littl more money but its better for them and you actually feed less. thats awesome lol. what hours does your bf usually work?

haha...I was just reading through the chat here...and just thought I'd say that it will prob be more like every hour on the hour...Ratties have teeny bladders and Tinkerbell seriously goes every 30 mins to an hour if she is not crated. She's almost a year and still goes that frequently. She can hold it for like over 8 hours if she is crated but when someones home and shes running about she has to go...she goes to the door and looks at you like hurry up mommy, I gotta gooo!

Oh and when she was a baby, I tried the potty pad thingy and it didn't really work...she would go where she wanted anyway, even if she was confined to a smaller area. She rarely went in her crate though, no matter HOW long I was working. Once she got to about 3 months she NEVER went in her crate. She would go all in the floor but not in her crate. Getting her to only pee on the pads just wasn't working. I don't think she understood why she could go HERE and not HERE. So...finally after like 7 months of trying I decided I would have to train her for outside and she picked up on it SO fast.

haha thats funny and good to know. yeah ive heard that its like 1hour for every month old plus 1 hour. but next year i i will have i think 2 classes in a row, so i will be gone 2 hours and then i have an hour for lunch then i am gone one more hour, and thats about it, untill i get a job lol. and one of my roommates is i think planning around the same hours so we can drive together. 5 mins to get there and park, not even a mile away. and my other roommate i think is taking a 8, 9 and 10 classs so she could always helo take her out. haha i hope that hen she does have accidents in teh house, that i can clean it up so it doesnt stain, bucause i dont wanna pay to get new carpets in the house lol thats be not cool. yeah ive read they are really smart and i plan on having her go outside. plus if i could teach her the bell thing that be so helpful lol yeah this thread turned a chat for the three of us, i find it all hilarious lol

Hey! WOW I missed out on a lot of talk! Haha, Abby and Bailey are both adorable names!! I puppysit for a couple right now, and their female dog is named Bailey. I am litter box training Olive, the breeder starts them out like that anyways, and it just sounds too convenient to pass up! I think it'll be nice to take her on walks for enjoyment rather than to go potty! I got her a little playpen to keep her in with her crate, litter box, toys, and such when I won't be home. Luckily, that won't be often because I get to take her to work with me Plus I have 3 roommates! But yeah it'll be interesting to go through potty training together! I guess crate training works miracles, so I will definitely be trying that..

haha yeah you missed a lot lol. when i get bored i just kinda pop on my lap top for a little to check email and this site lol....yeah i think my breeder dose litter box trained at first, but im fine with taking her outside, i wont be gone many hours at a time. haha i just love the name bailey! thats awesome that you can take her to your work with you. i am hoping that if i can get a job at the local petstore that after she gets all her vaccinations, that i can set up a play pin for her and take her with me. and she could socialize with people that come in ad dogs if they do as well, plus i am there. theyve had puppies there before, so that would be awesome if i could. its a very small family owned pet store, with supplies and fish repliles and small animals like rats hampsters and what jot. so i dont think it would be too overwhelming lol. what is it you are doing for work right now? yeah ive heard the crate works wonders, that will be a first on my list lol

I'm working at a dog day care! So she will definitely get her share of dogs.. hopefully they won't eat her!! But a pet store sounds awesome!! That would be such a fun job! If we both got to take our pets to work that'd be crazy, it's such a rare opportunity, but I'm so excited! She's going to be a little constant companion haha.

haha wow, i wasn't gone that long

that's great that you guys can bring the pups to work with you! i wish i could but i'm pretty sure that's not very sanitary or safe in a deli lol

hey kristen are you planning on using a doggie litter box or like one of the fancier doggy potties? i've seen a lot of different kinds online that have grates and stuff over the litter so that they don't kick the litter around and step in it and stuff. i think the "pet loo" is the best idea i've seen (http://thepetloo.com/us/) because it doesn't use anything that you have to replace like litter, newspaper, or anything and it's super easy to clean (and not messy! yea!), but it's CRAZY SPENDY! egad! any opinions? lol kinda curious cuz i'm assuming you might've done research on the same thing.

I think I'm going to use a litter box, but not use kitty litter. I guess wood pellets work really well for dogs, and aren't poisonous to them. Plus it's really cheap. It doesn't clump like kitty litter and I guess it's a lot cleaner. I am going to visit the breeder this weekend, I will ask her more about it then. I'll keep you posted

do you think that petco sells the pellets?

haha thanks (ahead of time) for keeping me posted! how big of a box do you think she'll need?

im almost positive petco has them. they have everything! lol i agree that prolly be best for you guys, not very much time to clean. these guys are very smart and im sure if you ever do decide to change and have them go to the bathroom outside, then they will catch on quick do you guys chat in anything online, like AIM or yahoo or anything?

ugh i am going home for the three day weekend and having my parents sign the lease and i am applying for jobs and what not fun huh! what i find really funny is, a few months ago i was set on talking to my aunt and seeing if i could stay with her for the summer and then find a job in seattle an be a city girl for the summer, it was a full proof plan, but i figured it be kinda hard finding a job fir the summer there, and my older cousin is staying at school and doing summer classes. shes awesome and i totally wanted to hang with her, but oh well lol i would have almost been living closer to you guys lol and she lives in the u district! isnt that weird?

I have always lived in Utah but my family moved to Redmond 3 years ago but I stayed here to go to school. There are quite a few members in WA including a breeder. There were not to many that met up last year but it seems like there are quite a few more now. I also go to that park when Im up there and I have seen quite a few ratties there too!

I will be up there the week of July 21-27 or 28.
