I think Nora, our training moderator, has a doxie with this condition. She's sure tried many things (vet recommended) but it's been a struggle for her I know. Perhaps when she gets time she can comment.

Justin, my Katie has had ear vasculitis.  I had someone help me whose dog was treated at a vet college.  I will get together the meds she was on and post.  Katie has been lesion free for well over a year now.

Also, anyone with this problem, please feel free to email me at katiescarlettorattie@gmail.com

I am not a regular poster on this forum, so have just found the two PM's about this subject.  So sorry I'm just now seeing them.  I have responded and will get the treatment info together and send you.

Hi Justin,

Roo had ear vasculitis.  Out of the blue the inside of his ears became scaly, bright red in patches.  Some areas after being red began to turn black and grey. The veins in his ears also seemed to be turning black and were quite visible.  The hair on the tip edges of his ears starting falling out in small chunks.  He also had two patches where he lost hair---one a small dime-size patch on his haunches and the other around his nose.

My vet had me try two products by Douxo (prescription):  1. Seborrhea Spot-on Antiseborrheic Solution and 2. Seborrhea Shampoo.  The spot-on is little tiny liquid tubes that are spread down the spine. I also rubbed a litte on his ear tips.  I bathed him with the shampoo every other night.  It doesn't smell bad even though it's medicinal.  His condition totally cleared.  The skin inside his ears has returned to normal.  The hair grew back in and stopped coming out.

I feed my dog dry and canned Wellness products.  I use Zuke's as my treats and for training.  He chews on bully sticks.  Roo has difficulty with anxiety and truly needs my attention every day and to be exercised.  I'm mentioning these last two because I believe that diet and stress relief/emotional factors are important in health care.

Don't know if this will help your dog and obviously it requires a Vet to prescribe....Good Luck!

Rhonda

Getting back to you on the meds for ear vasculitis.  Both Katie and Sam's dog, Mo, were on pentoxifylline.  Katie was also on tacrolinus ointment and at one point Mo was on protopic.  I would suggest taking these drug names to your vet and consulting with him/her.

Both Sam  and I noticed significant improvement in our dogs' ears when we put them on a wheat free diet.  I went to a potato and duck formula, and when Katie's ears improved, suggested it to Sam.  He did the same and said Mo's ears improved greatly.  Mo's condition was worse than Katie's in the beginning.  Both dogs are in remission -- Katie has not had a lesion in over a year.  It took Mo a little longer to heal, but he is now free of lesions also.

Their symptoms were lesions on the ear which did not seem to itch.  Both dogs lost some of their ear margins.  Katie was lucky and only lost a small piece from the tip of one ear.

I hope this helps you and any others who have this problem.  Good luck!
