It is probably where we are living, but the ticks are insane to get rid of! I had to put advantix on twice this month. Even the fleas were not going! My dad is ordering me tick collars at 19 bucks a piece. It is hard not to take the dogs in the woods here, its all woods here! Anyone use tick collars? Not flea collars but tick collars?

Here in Florida, we get everything. I have not used flea or tick collars. Right now I have been bathing them once a week in Adams flea, tick and lice shampoo. You can see the couple of fleas, fleeing, when you let it sit on them in the tub for a few minutes.

I use adam's flea off spray around the house to kill flies and ants. That stuff is great to keep around. I have never tried it on ticks, i usually suffocate them with Vaseline. Ugh we are finding them on us, its horrible! I need to call advantix and complain, a box of that stuff is like 50 bucks, it's a waste when i am applying it and then pulling 5 ticks off each dog a week.

We used to have a tick problem when we lived in the country, but since we moved to town 6+ years ago, no ticks.  Not hardly even any fleas.  I shampoo my dogs usually once every 2 weeks w/ Hartz Control---it's a flea/tick repellant shampoo with conditioners, and either we just dont have fleas here, or the shampoo works good, cos I bet I dont find more than 3 or 4 fleas total all summer, and never any ticks.

We had ticks bad last summer, haven't seen any yet this year....but then again I'm trying to keep them out of the woods and brush. My BIL's border collie has been super sick and the vet just figured out it was from a tick....wasn't Lyme disease though....BIL couldn't remember the name.

Dunno about ticks here yet, new development so I doubt it, but as far as the woods I am sure they are out there. I was thinking of using frontline since it doesn't was off with baths

I think all the creepy crawlies are building up a resistance to the chemical repellants. Send the Advantix people a letter with all the ticks you've pulled off the dogs, and ask for a refund.

I think they're building immunity, too. I had to switch from Frontline Plus to Advantage....it works for now but I anticipate having to switch again at some point.

I honestly haven't seen any ticks or fleas this year yet, and we live out in the country so I usually do see them about this time of year. I've always used Frontline but my goodness it has become SO expensive to treat four dogs regularly. So although I had Frontline on hand, I decided to purchase some Biospot from Petco and give it a try. It's less than half the price and a girl at work swears it works for her dogs. I put it on 3 weeks ago and still haven't spotted a flea or tick. So.... that tells me the Biospot is either working or the critters just haven't emerged yet. I suppose time will tell !

With the advantix i buy like over 55 lb dog size and i divide it between my 3 dogs. So that way I am only paying like 15 bucks a month to treat the fleas supposedly lol

I would keep a close eye on them for bad reactions to the Permethrin if using Bio-Spot. I seem to read of more reactions to that than the others. If a reaction occurs, be sure to wash as much off as possible with Dawn dishwashing detergent.

I'll probably use Frontline Plus every few months and when I go to the cabin I'm going to spritz some apple cider vinegar on their legs and belly to see if it is acidic enough to ward off ticks. If not, I'll just pull the disgusting SOB's off of them every evening.
