Can a "mini" be born of "toy" parents?  or a mini from standard parents?  or are parents and children generally the same size?  Could 2 toys have a standard?  I am a new owner of 2 rat terriers, we got them as rescue pups so don't know the parents, but were told they were something like 12-14 pounds each.  One pup is much bigger than the other, and the litter (of 8!!) were all different colors... some white/tan, some brown, and one brindle.

Depends on what is behind the parents. Our last litter was mini parents that threw 3 standards and 2 minis. Only way to get the small one's without health problems is to breed it down over time, but you have to watch out for the surprises in the backgrounds. You can't just throw 2 small RT's together, there may be a big dog in back. You can loose the mom that way. It takes time.

As long as I've been getting on here, I've never read this thread. I think that both Tinkerbell (mine) and Lucy (my step-moms) are type A's. Tinkerbell is a little more stocky though. Tink is probably a mini and Lucy a toy. Neither of them are fully grown yet but at 8 months, Lucy is probably about 6lbs and at 10 months Tink is about 11 lbs.

That's cool to know.  Murphy is Class A. 

RT's really are well-proportioned animals and very sporting!  A little too sporting, sometimes!

Krystle ~ I just showed my Dink Tink's picture and he's in LOVE....LOL!!!  She is absolutely gorgeous!  I want her!!!  I love her ticking. 

(Lucy is gorgeous too!)
